Changing Soundtrack Installation from MP3 to FLAC
How do I change the soundtrack DLC from mp3 to FLAC? Provided it's supported from that seller?

'generaly' speaking its installed automatically where the game is installed. i've not seen many of them making MP3 and FLAC explicilty separate purchases thus needing to download them separately from eachoteher

I believe it was Monster Hunter World that explicitly said they offer FLAC, but I'm not interested in their soundtrack. I'm assuming there would be an option.

That game doesn't advertise FLAC tracks so they're not included.

Unless teh store page explicity says it includes a FLAC version of the music, its not going to be there and there isn't going to be an option to download it.

You can't change audio with lossy compression into lossless. Either it's FLAC/WAV in the first place, or it isn't.

Drop an mp3 onto audacity and select the export file then in the output select flc from the drop down menu and the export format.
You will need to install LAME MP3 Encoder with Audacity to be able to use mp3
https://www.audacityteam.org/
lame
click on green tab download the latest it will download to your downloads.
the file is called lame-3.100.tar.gz
When Audacity asks for it point Audacity to your downloads.
Alternatively just click on it and then ok Audacity will now register it.
Its safe to ignore any warnings.

Beats me why you want to do this.
Your mp3 will grow from say a 4 megs file to a 27 megs. Quality will be same.
So be aware of this.

... I already know this. I wouldn't be asking about lossless compression if I didn't know mixing and audio outputs.
But all I know is some soundtracks offer FLAC downloading. I'm just guessing MP3 is default. I'm wanting to change that in the DLC installation process, and I'm trying to find if there's an option for that hidden in a menu in steam.

Contact the publisher, that isn't going to be something that can be "tweaked"

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

You can pick which DLCs to download to your drive on the right side of your game library, also from a game's context menu which also has the list of DLCs. I've never seen seperate entries for mp3 and flac files. Sometimes it downloads one of them, sometimes it even downloads both. Some example of stuff I have installed:

both:
Payday 2
Beat Hazard 2
The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine

FLAC:

This list obviously isn't meant to be exhaustive. Here's how you can download soundtracks without the rest of the game, what the platform is providing at least:

I believe some things changed since this discussion happened, so in case anyone else finds this...

Steam now supports soundtracks better. It supports a soundtrack to have optional additional high-quality versions of the tracks. If a given soundtrack includes that, these additional files are downloaded if you have enabled "Download high-quality audio files" in the Steam "Music" settings.

For a given soundtrack, you can check if it includes high-quality audio by checking the space requirements. If it says

Storage (high-quality audio): Additional ___ MB available space

then it has it. However, you can't know what format the high-quality audio might be. It could be either WAV or FLAC for example, depending on what the developer chose to upload.

Also note that some games still have soundtracks in the store in the old DLC-based format where the stuff I wrote above doesn't apply.
