Steam does not recognize that I have a larger hard drive with more space
Hi guys I hope you can help me. I cloned my windows 7, 32bit laptop 80 Gb hard drive to a 1 terabyte hard drive.
Using the open source software clonezilla. Every think works accept
Windows 7 did not recognize the new space. So I had to use control panel/computer management in windows 7 to make my computer see the larger hard on my computer and that fixed the problem on my computer.
Now Steam does not recognize that I have a larger hard drive with more space. When I try to download a game it tells me I do not have enough space to install the game. But I have 800GB free space on my hard drive, and the games I am trying to install are less than 1 GB. I bought a new game for steam and I cannot not install it.

What exactly did you do? Have you enlarged the existing partition or created a new one?

I enlarged the existing partition.

Is it formatted as NTFS or FAT32? Have you tried repairing the Steam library folder?

I am guessing that this is a BIOS issue and you have installed a drive that is just too big for the BIOS to handle, since it sounds like an older machine. I would try splitting the drive in to two partitions so you could have C: and D: that are 500GB each or something.

Hi thanks for the tips.
Ok been carefully checking them and looking the replies over them.
Tried a BIOS update but I did not have a battery in my laptop so was not successful but I have the latest already.
Then ran a check folder of game program from steam.
That did fix the problem.
So I figured out how create a new partition using windows 7 tools.
This was tricky but I did it years ago in windows 2000 pro so I thought
There a way. Finally after a few tries. I figured it out.
From control panel then Administrative Tools then click on Computer management then click on Disk management then about the only thing it let me do was shrink volume. But it was not what I wanted to do. I wanted to create a new partition. Which there was not a option. So finally I figured it out, if I shrunk the volume there may be some empty space and I should be able to create a new partition. Sure enough when I shrunk the disc it let me create a new parition. I left clicked on it and the wizard opened and I assigned a letter and formatted it with NTFS.
Now when I try to install the game it lets me. Thanks so much for the help.
