Couldn't you just disable Steam's sounds from your operating system's sound controls/volume controls? Just make Steam muted. That will not mute games. It will mute all Steam sounds, which is what you said you wanted to do!
True enough. It also probably means if I want to watch a video on a steam store page or play one of the minigames during a steam sale that I'll have to remember to unmute steam in my windows mixer, though...
But good idea, and for now I'll just do that.
But it sure would be nice if either A) the notifications section of the Steam Friends options/settings actually worked as indicated... or B) I knew where else in Steam settings/options/preferences there's a toggle for such things as pop-ups and sounds. I must be missing some hidden toggle.
