Trying to disable all Steam sounds
I thought I had turned off all the sounds that could happen when the new Steam Friends UI update happened, but I keep getting a loud sound and a notification pop-up in the lower right corner of the screen when a friend logs in.

I just double-checked and every notification checkbox is unchecked... I don't care that much about the notification pop-ups, I just want the sounds disabled... and every sound checkbox is unchecked as seen in my Steam Friends settings[imgur.com]

... I also checked the main Steam client's settings and couldn't find anything relevant to turn off or toggle. Any ideas?

Couldn't you just disable Steam's sounds from your operating system's sound controls/volume controls? Just make Steam muted. That will not mute games. It will mute all Steam sounds, which is what you said you wanted to do!

True enough. It also probably means if I want to watch a video on a steam store page or play one of the minigames during a steam sale that I'll have to remember to unmute steam in my windows mixer, though...

But good idea, and for now I'll just do that.

But it sure would be nice if either A) the notifications section of the Steam Friends options/settings actually worked as indicated... or B) I knew where else in Steam settings/options/preferences there's a toggle for such things as pop-ups and sounds. I must be missing some hidden toggle.
