does anyone know how to obtain a background via games?

would it just randomly appear in inventory after a random ammount of time playing? or are you supposed to unlock something in the game to unlock the steam background item?

also, if a game has steam backgrounds does that mean you will have a 100% chance get all of the backgrounds eventually similar to trading cards?

or is it a 100% chance to get atleast one background?

or is there no guarentee to get any background?

Craft badges, trade for one, or buy on the market.

You create backgrounds by crafting a badge for that specific game. Get all the cards required, and craft them together. You'll get Steam lvl experience, plus a background and emoteIcon I believe? But yeah WE as players make Backgrounds by crafting badges.

Other than that you can trade for it. Best way for that is to go to the games Discussion board here and post in the trading section you want that background. Or you can go to Steam trading sites or community sites for that game and ask.

Or lastly, and the easiest, you can go to the Community Market and buy the Background itself.

You don't need to own game to buy trading cards for a set to craft.

A: You dont get enough card drops from a game to craft the badge. You get 50% of the card set as drops, the rest you need to buy on the market or trade.
B: Cards only start dropping in games after 2 hours so no longer possible to refund.
C: Its much easier to just buy the desired background directly on the community market, most only cost a few cent.

Agree with Ogami.
I just go to my profile>click on Badges, you'll see your games with missing cards, as per usual.
Click on a missing card that will take you to the list of missing cards on the right is Trade or buy in the Market.. add some funds to your steam wallet a couple of dollars and go to the Market and buy them one by one. Very cheap.

Once all the cards are filled for that game it will pack them and you get a new badge and wallpaper?
