Can I purchase something and hide it until Christmas?

Me and my son have 1 Steam account. I see that dark and light is on sale (I'm sure it will be on sale again later). This is a game that he wants, but cannot play it now. We are getting him a new laptop for Christmas and this would be a great game to have installed when he opens it. If I purchased it now, he'd notice it.

Is it possible to purchase a code now, but not have it in the account until a few days before Christmas? Then I could add the game and install it on the new laptop and then wrap it up.

You will definitely have the option to schedule delivery of the gift via email.
Other comments here on Steam, have said you can purchase on Steam as gifts and when you do that with games you can either have the content directly given to someone else or stored in your inventory and if it's in your inventory then you can give it away at any time.

It is an early access game hope it all goes well as there is a lot mixed reviews.

Just wanted to suggest to you as you are buying him a Laptop please note Laptops are notorious for heat problems when playing games. Teach your son to ventilate the rear

Make your son his own account now. Games can't be transferred from one account to another and he will want his own when he gets older.

Set him up an account and buy the game on it and give him access to the account for Christmas.

Buying he game on his account will also remove the 'limited' status.

Alsxo, "new" laptop doesn't mean he'll be able to run the game.

That said if you mouse over your games tab it will show that you have "Hidden (1)"

I have used it and it is working just like I wrote.
No need for extra money.

He is correct. Removing it is not permanent.

Make a different account. buy the game on that account as a gift leave in that account inventory when the time comes just gift it to your sons account simpple.

It's not possible to store gifts in inventory, that option was remove long ago.
