Steam Gems
Greetings everyone. I know what is the purpose of the gems, but... Where can I see how much some Steam gaming card costs (in gems currency). Is it the same cost as we can sell them?

It won't since Steam takes a percentage of the sum when your selling.

So for example, I got some cards from a game (Alan Wake in this case). One card is worth 20 gems to sell, how much I have to pay for 1 card? 40? Or I can buy just booster packs with gems? Never used gems so far, but was always curious about how it works.

You can use gems to create booster packs and/or get 1000 of them and create a gem 'sack' which can then be sold on the market. You can't however use gems to buy single cards or other items off the market.

Booster packs will let you buy them for less.

Maybe it depends on where you are and what the games are. Many times the booster backs are not cheaper to buy than the three cards you need - minus is that you can't pick the cards - plus is that you might get foil cards that are worth more.

I'm in Canada and I find my trading cards will be worth less than 10 gems each but a booster pack (3 cards) will be 650 - 1200 gems to create.

Booster packs are worthless, not worth creating, selling or buying. The only reason for them to exist is IMHO when you don't want to trde/use the market. Apart of that weird boycott, there's no point in gems.

Booster packs are used by bots, who buys them in mass quantity which gives them the opportunity to buy cards at a low price.

I use gems to get booster packs for cards that are not available on the market - it's a bit of a gamble...

We also have a chance to win a booster pack at random intervals, I suppose. I've not gotten one after about five years eligible though. I would doubt it ever happens except I saw an unopened pack in a friend's inventory, and I know they don't trade for gems or even actively try to complete badges.

Personally I have gotten probably 3-4 booster pack in past three years. As I know, the higher your steam level is the more chance you've got. Also, you are competing with other people who own game. So, as time passes and other people raise their steam level, the less chance we get to find booster packs.

Thanks for the replies guys, really appreciate it.

About last comment, I am Steam user since 2013, but started to spend money on it since 2016, and until today, I got one single Booster Pack, while I was around 25th level. Now I'm 33, and got nothing in a years. Also, obtained Booster Pack was from game where I have level 5 badge, so maybe that is requirement as well for drops, idk.

I asked this at first, because I saw people are selling Gems massively on market, so I thought maybe I can buy them to craft badges at lower cost, but when I did my fast maths, I might save up 2 or 3 cents, so... #NotWorth
