How long will a ban on steam discussions be for "insulting someone"

Like a simple calling people cancer if they grief but then deleting the post and apologising for it later in forums. Nonetheless some people said they reported me for it and i was curious will i get banned for this even after i deleted and apologised for it? How long do these bans last and what do they do asides from not letting you talk in said forum? Will they stay on your acount like how VAC bans do even after the ban is over? Should i even worry this much about this?

depends on your behavior and history

normally, a warning or 2, then you get temp bans (can be a couple days/weeks) and then you get into permanent bans. This assumes you are posting on the general steam forums and not the game forums.

The game hubs are their own empire, and can issue bans without any warnings. They make their own rules there.

Same is here, never saw anyone getting warned and people only got unbanned due to good will gesture.

Same is here, never saw anyone getting warned and people only got unbanned due to good will gesture.

You won't see people being given the official warnings because those are handed out via moderation messages visible only to the account holder.

well, they do nothing except not letting you post
when you go through popular threads you will see many users be "banned" for whatever reason
and all that means they are banned in that specific forum

i flew over your posts and it seems to be regarding cs go
so the ban only cover that games forum

and yes, without having read that thread
smurfing is obviously griefing, since its undermining the ranked system

afaik in league official tournament players arent allowed to play smurfs in bronze anymore
because of that exact reason
and are supplied higher ranked plat/diamond accounts should they want to play a different account in order to prevent that

as from my personal experience, i just received a ban(my first one ever, as well as from a steam mod) for calling a pathologic lier a troll

hes being spewing the same false claims for a week, without anything being done,
giving new visitors a false impression of what to expect from the game

but as soon as i confronted him, bam
maybe hes the alt account of a steam employee ? or a friend/family? who knows

so with that in mind, it doesnt really matter what you say, if you apologize or not,
theyll ban you anyway if they are in a vindictive mood/you talked to the wrong person


so just be an upright person, saying what has to be said
no matter the consequences

call out the evildoers and scumbags of the steam forum
no ifs and buts

Well thank you. Yea that guy Garok is the one who said he reported me and that is the thread. i havent been banned, just wondering what happens if i do. And for your information that smurfing is griefing some ppl (*cough *cough Garok and another dude were saying the equivalent to "smurfing ain't griefing, u just suk, git gud" and thats what started this whole "war".

Well thank you. Yea that guy Garok is the one who said he reported me and that is the thread. i havent been banned, just wondering what happens if i do. apparently you get a community message in your news folder
you received a warning or you received a ban

after that, if you visit the forum in question,
it will have a red banner above it stating you cant post and until what date

if you visit any other forum you wont notice anything

no, not in your profile, but on the forum it will say banned after your name after every post you did, for the duration of the ban

after that, itll be gone again

steam mods seem to be nolifers and reading their forums 24/7, so if nothing has happened until now, it prolly wont at all

seems those bans go out within 24hours or shorter

no idea if each have their own forum or they just float over every valve game + steam generals
they dont seem to be informative about most things

since i never visit any other valve games, i have no idea how those forums are ran

but at least in artifact, if you speak up against anything = insta ban
(just saw another dude getting ban hammered, in the last 2 days and thats with a total of 3 new threads in total)
so yeah, better idea to focus more on gameplay... if there was anything we knew yet xD
