Where have the AAA titles gone?
Steam seems to have become a dumping ground for every wannabe developer who just watched a two hour tutorial about Unity. I have a GTX 970 and have yet to hear the fans spin up...
(I only upgraded from a GTX 670 in anticipation of buying a 4k monitor)

Most of the stuff I have seen in the past 5 years looks like it was designed to run on a cell phone. Some even look like they would run on a first generation Pentium - back when all CPUs had a single core and speeds were measured in MEGAhertz!

Where are all the games that drive people to upgrade their PCs? Where is the next GPU slaughtering AAA title that would be the modern day equivalent of Crysis?

Sorry just following gaming in the last few years says that there is fake news.. Real life does not seem to follow what those sites try to sell us..
having followed gaming for decades i can assure you its true, Pc gaming has never been bigger
Look at the last 12 months alone, we have had dozens of triple A pc games.

farcry 5, cod ww2, destiny 2, monster hunter world, to name just a few of the best selling games of the year.

I thiunk the problem is that AA has a curious problem in that they seldom occupy our collective consciousness for long. Thiunk about it. Three months after a AAA game releases, how many people are still talking about it, or grinding away hours in in it?

Each new triple AAA that's released more or less displaces the previous one.

1) Biased Memory
Our memory easily make things seem skewed to us. We might remenber times where 'AAA titles per year' (both pc or consoles) were high, but frequently we're mashing up past years together in our heads and if you were to count by year and compare the numbers wouldn't be that different (they are, but much less so)

2) AA
Like biased memory, in the past there was a huge chunk of 'AA' games so to speak, trying their best to mimmick AAA while being smaller, still ways above the budget of indies we see today.
While some i can remenber easily its much harder as time goes by- wich games im thinking 'AAA' were actually from a bit later and mid-tier to their age?
Mid-tier disapeared- and frankly even when they were around the boundaries between tiers were more blurred. The way AAA got way more expensive the gap between mid-high tier is way more noticeable, while in the past many would consider some AA games on level with AAA ones- namely, would consider then AAA.

3)Time and cost (everywhere)
Just got bigger- so yeah, theres less of then because they take more time. That much less? Not really. This time-cost effect also affects consoles, so it isn't a pc thing either- altough consoles may have more releases because of the freaking exclusives, while 'pc exclusives' aren't ever about being exclusive to a platform, only a dev who couldn't(yet) port to consoles.

4) Skewed perception
Theres like what, 20 games released a day on steam now? That clutters the view and our perception- in the past we didn't had 20 games a day, much less AAAs every month. Too much of one thing doesn't mean less of another, but may look like it.

Dozens really so what 24 games a year..half of those games you stated are ex console throw backs..

I'm not saying we don't get any i'm saying we get less and less and half or more of those are on consoles for years before we see them now..

The tripple A title are there. Even on Steam
But in fact there are just a hand full of big developers and design studios while there are hundrets or even thousands of those wannabe junkyard-devs with their asset flips and zero-knowledge about coding.

So you have like thousands of poorly developed releases and only a hand full of tripple As so thats why it seems that decent gaming is dying
I_Snort_Flour 2018년 8월 16일 오전 12시 07분
pc won't die no matter what because of 1 simple thing. Every game is first createed on a pc then ported over to the counsel as of right now. when the day comes that you can write the code and video edit from a console it will not usually be available first on pc or pushed off and released on same day. just look at the recent molst famouse titles tom clancy, pubg, fortnight, warframe, rocket league, call of duty, battlefield and so much more. The only exeception to this are counsel exclusive titles such as halo, uncharted, titanfall which are bound by contract to only release for that company. these titles rarely ever last as exclusives and once the contract is over they ofter times go multi platform and pc is usually the first to get it unless they improve the pc version over the counsel as they are not able to do as much as a pc being on average 1/3 the price. pc gaming is only going to get stronger with the the insane performance of new gpus releasing soon, now affordable counsel grade and better budget rigs which cost the same price and a platform that will now only be good for several years to come with the ability to make upgrades of your choosing when you have the money to vs the 3 year life span of your counsel if it runs that long without breaking as none of them last like pre ps3 fat days. other factors will also swade the market over to pc such as no $50 a year fees to play your games broadband, games sometimes cost half the price, more promotion sales and deals with computers vs counsels, ability to earn free money to put towards new games, keys, crates, or content of your choosing selling free stuff for real money on the steam market. its a no brainer and amd's vega 11 igpu is years ahead of its time for almost no money and when v2 releases (im betting last quarter this year or first quarter next year) the v2 edition of veaga11 or whatever they may use as an architecture at that point will be a fairly significant increase in performance and stabilty if it ends up being anything like the 1600x to the 2600x was using the new x470 chipset even though on paper not much seems to have been changed outside of smaller architecture but rather how it runs it and how much more capable it is to hold that performance without hitching thats makes huge strides in performance gains unforseen on paper.

And we are during what is known as the summer games drought, so what did you expect. AAA's never release that many games to begin with... If you get 3 AAA's releasing the same month that's a busy month for AAA's

Other, not AAA titles, are also worth mentioning. Perhaps not to you and the OP, but the store is not there to cater only to you.

I agree, the AAA games seem to be moving away from the front page for the most part, being replaced with indie and anime trash. Now, some indies are fun (highlighting the local shared screen multiplayer ones) but a lot of them are pretty awful. The console has always been behind the PC, so maybe we are just waiting for something to happen? IDK. This comment didn't really do anything for the OP, but hey I felt like giving my thoughts

That looks like fun. Bit of Rune Factory in it, with a twist.

False.

Many of the top played games / sold games are or were Early Access or indie developed.

AAA tends to follow trends and ends up being behind by about a year or two. Then there are the top few games (Madden, FIFA, COD, BF etc etc) that everyone buys no matter what.

The rate of AAA games being release is probably, if anything, quicker than it was previously simply to keep up with the Indie Developers now that EAg is a "thing".

But hey, I can only lead you-- I can't force you.

AAA games, for the most part, are crap compared to games like this
https://steamcommunity.com/games/566090/announcements/detail/1687048656470227058

AAA gaming, again for the most part, is all about rehashing the same gameplay over and over and over again, having the same game loops. Very little to no creativity.

AAA PC gaming isn't dead, it has been renamed to AA and some into indie. Seriously, the AA and the good indie games now, are basically what AAA PC gaming used to be prior to the console encroachment of PC gaming.

So what we really have is PC gaming and Console Gaming on a PC.
If you says so...
