Is it OK and/or legal to donate money to a friend on Steam?
A friend of mine wants to donate $200 to my Steam account. This seems kind of strange (For the record, I am not trying to scam him. In fact, I didn't ask him to send me any money at all), and I have concerns that this may not be legal and could put my Steam account at risk of getting shut down.

My question here is, is this OK or not?

UPDATE: I just now found out that I am actually not friends with this person

UPDATE: I chose to decline his offer and blocked him from communicating with me. Was that the right thing to do?

Yeah. I probably wouldn't question it if it was $2, but $200? I have a full-time job and even I wouldn't donate that much money to one specific person.

That's what I'm worried about.

It is a scam, I being in this situation before.

you cannot send people steam wallet directly via paypal fyi

so the 'friend' is your real friend or some randos on internet.

u can send them steam wallet code and they can redeem i guess
Can you show the text he wrote generalized?

Especially as it was a random person who texted you without being on your friendslist?

That could help to explain what the attempt was that someone tried to pull off. After all, it doesnt make sense outside of a scam scheme

Report, block and move on. The scammer pretended to be your friend.

Done.
He actually did trick me at first because his name was actually very similar to somebody I actually was friends with. But once I did some digging, I found out that he was not a friend and just now when I checked his profile, somebody else commented on it saying that he was a scammer.

All i need to know.

Give your friends nicknames. It helps.

But what is the "thing" with this scam?

Or the usual gaining details in the process?

I think the "thing" is he was trying to donate money to me in a potentially illegal way which could lead to my Steam account getting shut down.
