You can just load the planet after playing it once and go afk but in either case with just 100 of each games being gave away it's going to be rare to win anything obviously.

Also no one really knows how more time improves your ability to win.

More time = more entries. - Idk the number but let's say 1 hour is 1 ticket, 20 hours would mean 20 tickets.

What's weird is when the community completes one of the squares it says 'claimed'. I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean the person who completes each square gets one of the games, but 'claimed' just doesn't seem like it should be the word used there, because it makes you think... are we competing to be the last one?

It's proportional to time played. Valve's official contest rules say so.
