Need an RPG like Dungeon Hack! :)
Anyone remember an old game called Dungeon Hack? It was based on D&D 2nd edition rules and you basically created a character and then entered a procedural generated random dungeon and collected loot and gained levels and stuff.

Does anyone know of a modern PC equivalent? I can't seem to find a good single-player, turn-based dungeon crawl like this any more.

I tried Pillars of Eternity 2, but that's party-based and I don't like real-time combat. Even with the auto-pausing, I always feel like I am missing way too much stuff and everything happens to fast.

Well, there are several great old school dungeon crawlers - none exactly like Dungeon Hack, but you might find some of the to your liking:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/318970/StarCrawlers/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/409450/The_Fall_of_the_Dungeon_Guardians__Enhanced_Edition/
FotDG isn't turn based but has an active pause system that works more like turn based combat than Pillars)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/329040/Dungeon_Kingdom_Sign_of_the_Moon/
(DKSotM still isn't finished but plays as one of the best Dungeon Crawlers I know already)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/428880/The_Quest/
(The Quest may look a bit dated and it Is a mobile port, but it is also a huge, very old school Dungeon Crawler)

There are some excellent party based / turn based games that you might like to try. Formeost
https://store.steampowered.com/app/373420/Divinity_Original_Sin__Enhanced_Edition/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/435150/Divinity_Original_Sin_2/

but also
https://store.steampowered.com/app/208400/Avernum_Escape_From_the_Pit/
and all other Spiderweb games - if you can take the dated looks and somewhat clunky UI

You can find Duneon Hack on GoG, along with Eye of the Beholder and the old Goldbox Games.

Most of those, I already knew about, and some of them I already own. But there's a couple new ones on there, so thanks.

They do still make what you are looking for as many have already posted most of them. This should help you find other titles that Steam has to offer: https://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Name_ASC&tags=1720%2C1677&category1=998

Just note that most dungeon crawlers tend to take more after games like the classic Might & Magic series. Thus it makes it difficult to find the ones made for a single character play style as that style doesn't have as big of a demand. I would also suggest looking around GoG for older titles that could fit the bill.

NECRO TIME!
nearly none of these are what OP asked for

I think the side dungeons of Paper Sorcerer where you do most of the grinding is procedural.

Nethack and it's variants.
During my research I found out there isn't a game like Dungeon Hack.

Something like Wizardry 7 comes close or more namely more my fovorite Wizardry 7 Gold, but...

That's broken and 7 is just too tediously slow, (turn based) where DH was real time, so yeah.

Hope that helps more than it doesn't.

NONE OF THESE are randomly-generated first-person dungeon crawlers. [Except for Star Crawlers]
I hate to say it but the thing that comes closest is just playing custom dungeon master maps

Like =/= equal to. I gave the OP some examples for games that share certain elements with Dungeon Hack and I trust him to use his own judgement to find out if he likes them or not. I could equally discard your 'recommendation' regarding the OP because
- It is party based
- It isn't based on (A)D&D 2nd edition rules
- It certainly isn't a modern PC game
So, not what the OP asked for, right?

And you are, sadly, right that there isn't anything quite like Dungeon Hack. That doesn't mean that you can't (like me or the OP) try to find something enjoyable to scartch some of the itches.
Sorry for being a bit to salty here - I have been without my usual pen&paper fix for some weeks now ;-)

I somewhat dislike playing pen&paper games online, so I guess I will just work on my upcoming campaign and hope for better days to come!
