I can't tell you exactly why, but it is codemasters standart procedure fro the Grid games. A new one gets released and the predecessor is taken from store.

Usually the standard license agreements for cars and/or music expiry dates reached and it just not being worth the cost to extend them.

At least, Store page is still there.
I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate when Store page gets removed from Steam.
There's so much useful info on the store page (Videos, Pictures, Game Description, System Requirements, Tags, Reviews, etc.)

When they removed original GRID, they also removed the whole Store Page.

^This.

If you miss out claiming your free copy, then not much can be done about it, as they gave Grid 2 away for free multiple times, on humble bundle, and Steam.

They had to, might be from license agreement about using the page for marketing that is related to the licensed product.

First GRID was removed a while back as well. I could also see them remove Autosport within a few years. Just look at the Forza series from Microsoft. Most of these games have been delisted.

Yeah they removed Grid and replaced it with a game called Grid. I'm so done with that series now. Back to Forza and they still have a fair few listed on the MSStore.

I think that whole thing about needing car license to use it in a game is really dumb.
Game developers create those cars in game. Why do they have to pay to car manufacturers to include their car to the game?
Having vehicle in a game that people like to play is one of the best advertisements car manufacturers can have.
They should pay money to developers for including their cars to a game.

Any developer can use any weapon in their shooter game without paying for license to weapon manufacturers.
But developers of racing games have to pay for car licences that they can use only for limited time.

It doesn't make any sense to me.

Your wrong about them being able to use any weapons without a license there are more than a few well known ones that get renamed and remodeled because they aren't allowed to use them.

Copyright laws cover more than just media they include physical goods and even people's faces.

Those laws are there for a reason. It sucks right now cause the game is gone from the store, but if it was the other way around and copyrighted material was being abused for any reason, that wouldn't be good either.

Cool, but that wasn't even what I was pointing to begin with, as laws serve a purpose, hence the "copyrights" there's also ways people will abuse those "copyrights" for their own gain, or to even pervent new standards, and etc, for example if X product was used for Y issue, but Z compaines can make X product cheaper, and effective, or even better, yet A comapny that holds the "copyrights" will fight to pervent such thing happening to keep profits up for themselves, and yes this is a real problem in medical area, house hold problems, and etc... Now for gaming it's not a problem, it's the fact that it's unavoidable when comes to renewal contracts if it's even worth paying for such things, and in some cases they demand more than what they think it's worth, or even just plain dumb amount, that doesn't make much sense how much one can demand for their own gains on it, hence "greed" which we see games get taken down a lot of the time due to compaines either want more money, or just not as expected, but still want the same amount asked before, and refuse to take any less.

No law dictates that a license can't be perpetual for a particular game.
It wasn't perpetual because the publisher could save money by paying less for a time limited license.
So, the game was pretty much doomed to be removed from sales before it was even released.
