Nope I've used the same network adapter in my PC for 2 years now and it was pretty good until these issues started somewhere last year.
Sometimes I get disconnected from the internet when playing games portal 2. Also when I try to play coop whoever is 2nd player will have insane ping like 400 even if they are live near me. If i'm 2nd player then ill get insane ping also.
When wireless networks (and the activity on them) can screw with your connection, it can be made worse when playing online. Just something worth trying if you can for a few hours, see if it still happens.
But the problem is I can never find any fix to these issues and the problem could persist for days.
I tried playing team fortress 2 earlier this morning but I kept getting insanely high ping which is very unusual because I didn't have any youtube pages or anything open that could intrefere with the connection and the servers I was on was in sydney and pretty much 99% of the time sydney servers always give me great connection.
As for fixing it, the only sure-fire way is to hardwire yourself directly to the modem. If for some reason you cannot do that, then you'd need to know exactly why your network is cutting out. Like Toast says, there's dozens upon dozens of reasons that could be happening. Often times it tends to be others on your network hogging bandwith that prioritizes over whatever you're doing -- thus cutting you off. But if that's not the reason, then it could be anything.
Whenever I do a serious online gaming session, I always make sure I hardwire my desktop directly to the modem. I know nothing on my PC is going to disrupt anything, and that always goes flawlessly for me. Otherwise, on wireless I tend to have issues.
Well unfortunately I can't do that since the router is too far from my PC.
If not, I think you're more or less screwed for the time being. Perhaps the best solution for now is to consider buying a nice long cable.
