Games causing internet to cut out.
Okay this is something that has been pissing me off for quite awhile now and I can't seem to find any fix for this.

Some games I play on here cause my PC to disconnect from the internet for an unknown reason and I really need help finding out why this is happening.

The main game that causes the most problems is portal 2.

Have you tried using a different network adapter? I'm not sure, but it could actually be a hardware issue. I've had a few adapters go bad on me over time. The pattern seems consistent. They start randomly disconnecting, it gets more and more frequent, and eventually they just stop working entirely.

Nope I've used the same network adapter in my PC for 2 years now and it was pretty good until these issues started somewhere last year.

Also the strange thing is when these issues happen I can still surf the internet fine without problems.

Ah well then you're not getting disconnected from the internet, are you?

Sometimes I get disconnected from the internet when playing games portal 2. Also when I try to play coop whoever is 2nd player will have insane ping like 400 even if they are live near me. If i'm 2nd player then ill get insane ping also.

Can you phyically connect to the internet directly without going through the network? Sometimes I have problems gaming online when attached (hard-wired *or* wirelessly) to a network/router, but directly plugged (hard-wired) into the modem hooked up to my computer I don't have any problems. Sometimes you can get disconnected intermittently while using a network connection.

When wireless networks (and the activity on them) can screw with your connection, it can be made worse when playing online. Just something worth trying if you can for a few hours, see if it still happens.

That's the problem I'm on a wireless connection and sometimes this issue goes away and I can play online games freely for awhile couple of weeks orso then it comes back again to be annoying.

Yeah well you're probably getting some interference. WiFi is basically just short range radio signals being sent back and forth. Anything that can interfere with those signals is going to cause disruptions in a WiFi connection.

But the problem is I can never find any fix to these issues and the problem could persist for days.

I tried playing team fortress 2 earlier this morning but I kept getting insanely high ping which is very unusual because I didn't have any youtube pages or anything open that could intrefere with the connection and the servers I was on was in sydney and pretty much 99% of the time sydney servers always give me great connection.

Yep, safe to say it's your wireless network connection most likely causing the problem.

As for fixing it, the only sure-fire way is to hardwire yourself directly to the modem. If for some reason you cannot do that, then you'd need to know exactly why your network is cutting out. Like Toast says, there's dozens upon dozens of reasons that could be happening. Often times it tends to be others on your network hogging bandwith that prioritizes over whatever you're doing -- thus cutting you off. But if that's not the reason, then it could be anything.

Whenever I do a serious online gaming session, I always make sure I hardwire my desktop directly to the modem. I know nothing on my PC is going to disrupt anything, and that always goes flawlessly for me. Otherwise, on wireless I tend to have issues.

Well unfortunately I can't do that since the router is too far from my PC.

Can you move your PC closer? May take some re-arranging, if it's worth it to you.

If not, I think you're more or less screwed for the time being. Perhaps the best solution for now is to consider buying a nice long cable.

Dived down into the issue abit further and for some reason when I was playing TF2 I would recieve insane ping but asoon as I pressed the start menu button on my keyboard all the lag just goes away but asoon as I click back into the game the lag returns.
