Sad, but this goes way beyond just things like "child porn." We haven't been concerned with individual lives for a long time now.
Pretty much and thats the fkin problem everyone gets offended over these small lil things but they ignore the actual child trafficking happening around the world.

"Soon?" The laws (at least if you live within the glorious US) are already there.
The point is that in the US laws are something that are a convenience to have around without immediate enforcement. But piss off the wrong person (especially if they wear that "civil servant" uniform), and suddenly the least logical law gets thrown at you.
The US prosecution tactics has long been "throwing the whole book at 'em." Even if most of the charges get struck, that tactic alone will sway any theoretical jury in favor of sentencing for something.

The result of our "we're the greatest!" indoctrination coupled with abject surrender to any figure of authority (look at our "education" system - kids have been literally suspended just for arguing with teachers when the latter gives false information!). On top of survivor bias supporting such ridiculous social themes as "you only need to work hard to make it," and outright anti-intellectualism promoted by one of the two only real parties.
Basically US social structure have long purposefully been set on producing unquestioning "Morlocs"[en.wikipedia.org] that get billions of dollars thrown at them in propaganda and mental conditioning to ensure the "right" election results.
Anybody who tries to use logic and factual discourse gets drowned out in the noise.

A huge majority of population is more concerned about making it to the end of the month without going in debt than finding time to follow news, much less to have informed opinion on so many various specialist subjects. High economic inequality is directly tied to ininformed voters, and we've been pushing records in that respect (USA! USA! USA! Numbah 1!)

Pretty scary that Valve adopts the same censorship ideas as those slimy governments mentioned above.
Then valve just pulls out of those junky countries with crappy laws. This will force the millions of sheep in those countries to start demanding their politicians to BACK OFF THEIR ENTERTAINMENT.
Even in dictatorships, censorship first and foremost targets anti-goverment movements and shuts down criticism. They have enemies of the state to hunt, no time to waste on erotic drawings, unless they are anti-goverment.

Then you probably linked the case where the police black mailed the person into admitting guilt. I remember that one as the police didn't let him have any lawyer or anything and told him to either admit guilt now and only get put on a life long list as a child abuser, or go to court and get 25 years in jail because cartoons are super illegal.
Most would fall under that pressure, especially when denied lawyers to help them out. Which is the whole plan by the police when they want to cuff creeps.
He'd have gotten out not guilty if he had bothered to fight. But not everyone has the mental power to deal with these porn haters who are usually hyper aggressive.
