Serious decline in quality of game recommendations lately
What is going on with the discovery queue over the past month or so? I keep getting recommendations for mobile games, indie tower defense crap, games that are all in Chinese, and a crap ton of not-game porn/soft porn "slide the tile" puzzle hentai crap that is a game in the strictest definition. The tagging system is NOT effective at blocking these, nor are my "not interested' markings. Seems like the quality of titles for Steam is either declining massively, or the recommender engine is utterly broken.

I've marked thousands of games ignored yet a sale comes with those titles and my frontpage is filled with greyed out crap. Especially if it's some AAA trash.
ANd there's the first and biggest mistake people make. They spend so much time declaring what they don't like and not enough time indicating what they like. Little tip. The ignore stops working after it passes 100 games.

OHave too many and the system basically can't figure a common thread between them and so just gives up.

OP. The discover Queue is a YMMV situation. But generally speaking it is just one tool. If it doesn't yield the results you're looking for, use a nother tool.
^ this find games you like and wishlist them and you will get less recommendations for games you hate

I would agree with you if it were true.

I have blocked VR, VN, and hentai games from my que and guess what 50% of my que is made up of everyday???

Every day the que shows me games that are nowhere near the types I have wishlisted (238 in my wishlist so far) or have purchased or the type I play. Only games I use the ignore button on are things that are not games to me but pixelated porn, so I have not reached the limit on ignored games. Might just be that they ran out of games to show me because I have noticed that almost all of them now are "coming soon" or just released on the day I look at the que.

I don't really have a problem with it as I just hit "next" and move on, but I admit it does make looking for a good game a bit harder as I shuffle through games that look like they were ported from the old Atari 2600 days or at best the PS1 days. Or my all time favorite "English is not supported for this game"....lol

Again you need to stop using your queue so much it is designed not to repeat what it shows you so all you are doing by using it constantly is forcing it to go further from what you want to see to find new things to show you.

Steam tells you specifically why it's showing you a specific game in your recommendation queue.

What does Steam tell you when these games show up in your queue?

The joke is. I actually play some VN and Hentai games and i don't seem many of them in my queue.

It tells me because it has "action" or "indie" or some other tag put on the game.

What is the point of telling the que to stop showing tags I specify when it shows them anyway just because they have more than 1 tag.

I don't want to see VR only games. Yet I am still being shown them because it has an "action" tag or some other similar thing to what I do like. I don't have VR, I do not own any VR games.

I don't want to look at VN's but I do like some indie games, yet in order for me to not see VN's anymore I have to block indie games too?

All action games are not VR, all indie games are not VN, yet according to Steam, they are because in order for the "do not show xx" tag, you have to include tags of stuff you do like.

Only good recommendation feed is the activity page of my Steam friends and friends reviews. Recommendtaions through algorhythms is an online hell that is hard to avoid. Just look at Youtube and how messed up that is. If you watch 3 video's about trains or something then the next 2 weeks you will get spammed with trains video's.

You know in pref you can block certain tags right?

Also again missing the point wishlist and follow games you LIKE.

Also I dont see how ps1 or Atari makes a game "bad."

Both consoles had good games.
Graphics an't everything.

Did you read my next post???

I already said I blocked the tags for VH, VN, and Hentai yet I am still being shown those games because they have multiple tags, and those other tags are the reason I am still seeing them.

I don't like VN's at all but I do like some indie games. I am still being shown VN's (even though I blocked the VN tag) because it has the "indie" tag. So the blocking a tag function seems to be useless because in order to block games with tags I do not like, I would have to block games I do like.

As far as the Atari graphics, I did not mean that they are necessarily bad games, I started my gaming career with PONG and between my cousin and myself, we had every atari 2600 game made. What I ment was that they are obvious asset flips or games that have taken free assets and slapped together just to try and make a buck. What most refer to as "shovelware" or "Garbage games". Plus I still have my PS1 and a Nintendo 64. Between these and the broken block function, it makes it harder find games that I am interested in.

And as I said, the games I am being shown are no where near the games I like and or play / have wishlisted.

Ex: I wishlist only sim games. I own only sim games "thief simulator", "House flipper" etc, etc, my que should only show more sim games right? Nope, it shows my maybe 1 sim game but the rest are FPS, MMO's, VN's, and everything but sim games.

As I said, I do not have a big problem with it. I hit "next" and move on. Just curious why we even have a block tag function when it clearly does not work as intended?

And this is why it is more productive to tell the system what you like than what yoiu dislike.

Maybe because Sim games aren't a very large category.. particularly if ytou weed oyut the troll games.

As I said, I do not have a big problem with it. I hit "next" and move on. Just curious why we even have a block tag function when it clearly does not work as intended?
It does.. for most people. The way you use it however.. is not. And as others have said, you may be using the queue too frequently.
Ganger 20/abr./2019 às 4:21
What do you expect ? with all the best games no longer available on steam to buy.

gamerhelligon 20/abr./2019 às 4:36
So how do you tell the system what you like?

I wishlist games I am interested in and like (238 on wishlist right now). I buy and play games I like(170 in library currently) . I follow games I like, yet I am still being shown games I do not like. I mean it is possible I am missing something but all I see is ways to block certain games. If they do have a "show only" button, then I still would not use it because I like more types of games than games I do not like.

It's easier to have a button to tell me to block VH, VN, Hentai, then a button to tell me include RPG, Action, MMO, Survival, FPS, Strategy....................you get what I mean I hope.

Again, I ask what good is having a block tag function when I am still being shown a game with those tags??

I am trying to tell the system what I do like through wishlist, play history, purchase history etc, etc, but like most people on the forums (especially in a certain game forum right now) the system is ignoring it and only doing what it wants to do.

I am sorry but I do not see how you can say a function is working properly when I use that function to block the tag VN, which is "SUPPOSED" to not show me a game with the VN tag attached, yet my que is still showing games tagged with VN.

This is what I am trying to get across. The que is not showing me types of games I play or are interested in, it shows me games I am supposed to have blocked.
gamerhelligon 20/abr./2019 às 4:52
OK, was just checking my que for the day. I have VN blocked (both as VN and visual novel) yet what is in my que??

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1061490/Breeding_Village/

Why was it recommended to me?? Because you've played games tagged:

Casual

So again, I am trying to say the block function is either not functioning as intended or is worthless as it does not block tags I tell it to just because it has tags of games I do have / like.

STOP USING YOUR QUEUE AND GIVE THE STORE TIME TO GET MORE OF THE TYPES OF GAMES YOU WANT TO SEE INSTEAD OF BLAMING IT FOR HAVING TO PULL UP SUCH WEAK LINKS TO FIND ANYTHING NEW FOR YOU
gamerhelligon 20/abr./2019 às 5:25
So I am not supposed to check it only once a day??

I do not spam the que multiple times a day. I check it once a day (usually when i get home from work). So why give me a daily que to look at if I am not supposed to check it once a day??

Edit: And even if someone were to spam the que several times a day (which I already said I only check que once a day), it still does not change the fact that tags that are supposed to be blocked are still showing up.
