All games need me to review EULA agreement. Again.
Just as it says. Been using Steam for years, and often. Just fired up mafia II. Asked me to review EULA again, and when the game loaded, my saves are gone. Then I started up Arma 3. Asked me to review EULA agreement. So did KC:D, but my saves are intact. I have played these games for hundreds of hours, according to my library. What happened? Did I miss something or what?

sounds more like you're on the wrong account

also not sure if mafia 2 has steam cloud saves
Mafia 2 does not. All of the save files are inside %localappdata%\2K Games\Mafia II\Saves.

I have but one account, which I do not share with anyone. This machine is likewise not shared with anyone.

I simply have no more saved game folder for Mafia II. I didn't delete it. No great loss, but whiskey tango foxtrot.

And that wouldn't be an explanation for needing to review EULA again, as if I hadn't played the game before. And Steam still knows the hours I have put into each. Steam did not re-install anything. I have two titles I haven't tried. I'll try repair before I launch them.

This has happened to me twice in the past.. One from a hard lockup that required a hard shutdown.

The second time .. it just started to ask .. and the only thing that I did was replace a failing wireless LAN card.

Doing that also tripped a TON of other copy protection methods. Still dealing with the aftermath of that.

ah, hardware integrity checks, yet another "feature" no user ever asked for.

What I do not understand is their use of the lan card to hash the key.

I've had two fail in this machine over many years. One would work but always disconnect, requiring a reboot.

The other just stopped working entirely.

I wonder what file Valve keeps that I can backup in case this happens again.

Try one of the config files.

Oh joy

Thanks fellas. Hopefully this is the only time this happens to me. Only annoying so far so I suppose I'm lucky it wasn't worse.

The repair route didn't help BTW.
Oh-

Been using Steam since 2010 and this never happened before. Was there some kind of Steam event, server check, downtime, something? I hate mysteries.
