Is there any merit to using gyro controls for racing games over the analog stick?
Tried Dirt 3 with gyro cause i thought it would be fun, found that there's no point of reference point as to where the center of the steering is besides my own arms so it's hard to gauge and I tend to overcorrect since there's no feedback from the controller to know how much you are turning as you would have with analog controllers. The first person camera with the steering wheel visible helps to guage how far i'm turning but that's more time spent checking the steering wheel rather than actually driving.
I guess with enough practice I would develop the muscle memory for it but is there any significant benefit to learning this over the analog stick?

I used the gyro on Steam controller to play Forza Horizon 5. I think the advantage of gyros is precision of steering. The joystick may steer too much when I only need to turn a little bit.

IMHO not. Well, if your analog sticks are kinda crappy (I couldn't understand how hard the yoga part of GTA 5 can be until I tried it on my flatmate's PS), then gyro controls may provide an advantage, but generally, it's a gimmick.

With an actual gaming steeering wheel including force feedback (or at least a decent return spring), things are different. But when it comes to low-end racing, good analog sticks do the trick just fine.
