But I do agree with the sentiment of this thread.. it is pathetic what Valve is chasing now.
Again.. VR is Freaking Awesome!!!1..
but what valve did here is NOT>
You can use other headsets than the index or vive, there less then £400 atm. In fact one of the windows one is one sale for $250 atm.

short and lacking content.
There are diamonds in the rough.... though not many.
This had better be good.. but I doubt it knowing the path that Valve has taken in the past..
and at a 60 dollar price tag.. omg .. it had better be creme' de' la' creme'
A lot of VR titles only seem to have between 2-5 hours worth of content and seem rather limited in terms of interactivity i.e on rails. Alxy will need to be at least 15 hours and offer a fully interactive and immersive experience. I do think a Portal VR game would be very interesting but Alyx will be a real test of Valve's credentials in this space.
Thats called "looking down the wrong end of the telescope".
Some will say that Half-Life was always about innovation but I don't remember that innovation requiring a near totally different platform. And yes VR is NOT the same as PC gaming even if it's through a PC.
VR will never get to do the same genres and games as proper PC will do, same thing as consoles can't properly do RTS as PC can do.
And while VR can become a very strong niche for things the other platforms cannot achieve the almost nonsensical push Valve and others have done for this expensive niche gives the impression these corporations are hoping this will be the new Wii and tap in a mystical new market of casual so far undiscovered by this behemoth of a industry.
It's also funny that this still isn't HL3 so a part of me thinks valve themselves know this isn't a guaranteed success. Artifact probably did some serious damage to their confidence as developers.
Ofc it's a gimmick. Most VR are just gimmicks or glorified tech demos. It's a new field for developers and a universally appraised blockbuster that attracts the non new tech adopter crowd has yet to appear.
This road has yet to be properly traveled through so nobody can just copy and tweak a previous
massive success like what happens with regularity nowadays in the "normal" video game market.
Praying they get ahead of the trends and hit the jackpot.
I'm not investing in VR anytime soon.
I bought the HP "Windows one" for 40$ at a popular auction site factory refurbished then I paid like 80$ for the controllers.... So 120$ for 1440 capable headset. So 180$ to play the new HL 2.7 is ok i guess. Still can I get an F in chat for everyone who died still believing HL3 would ever release.
