Adblock for Steam, a quest to end bandwidth thievery.
Thanks to the amount of spam developers are sending by abusing the new "recent updates" system, I have decided to try and put a stop to them wasting my bandwidth.

Trying to block the server that sends information for the "recent updates" and for the page that opens when you click on a game with the windows firewall.

Anyone know the IP or server name? I want to try blocking the content for the goodness of humanity.

Serious replies only, and please do not feed the trolls. (Amazing how many threads are going down in flames thanks to a few highly visible trolls lately.)

All that stuff is almost certainly delivered through the Akamai network. If that’s the case then you may struggle to IP block it without blocking everything else in the process.

I don't get many updates in the "What's new" section, luckily. How are you being spammed? Certain types of games doing that?

I think it varies, I'm thinking by geographic region and local laws. I'd love to find out what the pattern is, but some people get ad-like behaviour and others don't. I've noticed Australians don't seem to get it as much, perhaps due to stringent laws, the ACCC, etc.

You can always reduce the amount of news you're getting for a certain game, AFAIK reducing to 0 is an option as well.
Have you tried reducing the news?

just edit the .css root file, disable the whatsnew window, set the folder write protected from security options and browse the news of the games you are following through your activity section,I'm also trying to find the name of curators, devs you may know, steam most sold fotm games which are mostly on my ignore list anyway and that freaking special sale banner containers to disable once for all all the crap I don't give a cow about

I'll have to try that, I'm on limited data and conserving data is hard enough as it is

You post a bogus tutorial, then admit it does not work in less than 15 minuets.

We need a vote system to get rid of these type of posts I am afraid.

Changed first post so people see that there is already someone trolling here, and hopefully they will ignore them.

I posted it for the other user I QUOTED in my post.

No one is trolling and throwing accusations like that will only make things bad for you.
