Games as a service started long before valve/steam. Games came with CD keys when you bought them from the store and if you didn't use that key before someone else did, you weren't playing g the game you bought. This is nothing new and it will never go away. Just wait u til we have to start paying a subscription just to download games

This gentleman needs to watch and listen to the whole video. In the past "bricking" was used by developers to shutdown purchase games. Another way was to shutdown required game servers which also render the purchased game useless. Or force you the buyer to purchase a newer version of the game. I say that's fraud when a developer wants raise more revenue. In any case the buyer needs a FULL plain English explanation of purchase terms and what if policies. I think DRM free games are the way to go. "Caveat Emptor" still applies. That's why I like some of the older games which still play fine without servers and DRM's.

This gentleman needs to watch and listen to the whole video.

And we did and a lot of the points brought up are just wrong or outdated or misreading of hte law

In the past "bricking" was used by developers to shutdown purchase games.

Literally this has NEVER been done but you know just lie about stuff when you can't come up with an actual coherent point?

Another way was to shutdown required game servers which also render the purchased game useless.

And well maybe you've forgotten but game servers cost money to run? And maybe you know companies don't want to keep throwing money into giant holes 'just because'.

Or force you the buyer to purchase a newer version of the game.

Again it seem slike a trend with you to just make stuff up.

I say that's fraud when a developer wants raise more revenue.

I really hate to break this to you but game development isnt a charity. They arent non profits or not for profit companies. The really really tried and lame excuse of "making more money" is the point of a for-profit company. So stop using this as some kind fo 'oh they're so evil' nonsense. For profit companies want to make money> Yes thanks sherlock for the update. What would we do without your head on brick wall levels of insight.

In any case the buyer needs a FULL plain English explanation of purchase terms and what if policies.

That's not how contracts work because contracts are about law and liability not 'plain english'.

I think DRM free games are the way to go.

You literally just whined about contracts and are then jumping on "DRM free" yeah because you know DRM free games don't have EULA either? Oh wait they do!

"Caveat Emptor" still applies.

If htat's the case then why are you whining. You want the buyer to beware but are whining about the terms.

" And well maybe you've forgotten but game servers cost money to run? And maybe you know companies don't want to keep throwing money into giant holes 'just because'. "

I don't care ! Got it! Put that above statement in the purchase agreement that you the developer reserve the rights to shutdown your purchase when the server is shutdown !

Let's see how the game sales fly when people are educated that some one else is controlling their gaming experience on their home personnel computers.

I have my own home servers.. :)
