Unity games...
Certain games on the Steam store have issues when it comes to bugs, compatibility, or otherwise, but any game that uses the Unity engine consistently gives me issues. These games are stuttery, memory-leaking CPU hogs that make me want to bang my head on my keyboard while I rummage through the same copy-paste dead-end support forums looking for help and then ultimately just try to endure the pain when I never find a fix for the issues I'm having.

FPS in these games constantly fluctuate, despite using computer hardware that far exceeds the requirements of the games. Turning the graphics settings all the way down to their minimum makes little to no impact, aside from making your game look like an alpha version of Half-Life 1.

Travelling through the in-game worlds feels like playing freezetag; every 5 or 6 steps, your game locks up for a half-second while it tries to load in all of its assets before populating your screen with a staggering amount of new information. Seriously, in a game I picked up recently called ECO, there's wildlife that takes two steps forward and DISAPPEARS because they step beyond the game's (unchangable) 5m rendering distance. Needless to say, trying to hunt the wildlife is not viable.

Of course these shortcomings do not apply to every single game that uses the engine -- the renowned CupHead runs buttery smooth and offers very responsive and polished gameplay. But one good egg in a bad dozen won't change the fact that the rest of the carton is a rotting heap. VRChat, Albion Online, Risk of Rain 2, and literally dozens of other titles that use this engine all suffer from massive instability, framerate drops, multiplayer issues and more. It is extremely disappointing to get worked up for a game that looks incredible only to have it serve you up a big pile of buyer's remorse when you realize the engine it was built on is made of toothpicks and glue.

What are some of the issues you've experienced when playing Unity games? Do you go through the same issues that I do? Are there any suggestions or fixes that have helped you in the past? Any helpful information is welcomed.

I don't have issues with Unity games.

How do you generally update your drivers?
Have you tried rolling back to an older driver?

there is only one unity game i have had issues with (7 days to die) but my understanding of that game is that it lacks optimisation and the devs are trying to do too much with the engine.

you don't need to update your drivers when new ones become available unless those drivers are optimised for a particular new game you wish to play. sometimes newer drivers can break more than they fix

I use the GeForce experience software developed by NVIDIA to download updates.

I really hope the issue isn't on my end somehow, but if neither of you have these issues I wonder what the heck would be causing it...

Nope me either. Unity games some have awesome graphics maybe your system is not up to the task.
Problems with any game can begin with these
Age of parts >includes thermal paste drying out causes heat
Dust build up on all fans including heatsync causes heat
Power supply unit getting old causing intermitten pings causes frames jumps crashes.
HDD aging read / write struggling.
Needs defragging if not SSD
Background running programs.
Not enough ram.
Probably more but that's the main

I'd say a bad driver is causing the issue. Try a rollback, should be easily done through Geforce Experience.
Last year I had a Nvidia driver that caused Armello to not boot up anymore (black screen). Rolling back a driver fixed that then.

Yeah risk of rain 2 is complete trash later in the game but it's in EA so hoping the performance will improve.

Unity is a free engine (with asset market). Result is that a lot of beginner devs, very low budget devs and straight out amateur devs use this engine.

The engine itself has weaknesses such as mediocre physics, but with good coding under the hood you can create fine games with this engine and there are plenty of good examples of it on Steam, but also a lot of bad examples that turned out to be laggy bugfest games. I just played the game 'Layers of Fears' for a bit and that game looks and runs fine with Unity.

Very true.

It's probably worth mentioning though that Unity has recently partnered with the Havok physics engine team and are also introducing a new data-oriented approach to scripting.

Perhaps this might eliminate the technical issues, but I can't say the same for amateur devs.
