I have about 100+ game cd's in my closet. 99.9% of them will not work unless you are a pc guru and can play around with emulators and have hours upon hours to try and get them working and still most will not work on modern OS.
If I ever find a working computer that has XP I would snatch it up and use it for all these wonderful games from yesteryear that are now sitting in my closet collecting dust.
First game I would download would be "Black and White with the creature island expansion"........i love that game and have yet to find it anywhere that works on windows 8............................./sigh.
Not that hard.
Usually for retro gaming, many old games dont work on Windows 10 without having to fix them yourself, others dont work on Windows 10 at all,.
But that is not always the case!
Some old games do work on Windows 10 but perform poorly compared to Windows XP
A good example are the goldsource games that on Windows 10 tend to lag and have performance issues that you need to fix using the launch options, while on Windows XP they perform normally.
That is still why i dual-boot Windows 10 with XP
There is really nothing wrong with using Windows XP to play Steam games or any other old games.
Sadly I tried all that and it still will not work.
Just as the Fable game I used to love. Spent one whole day trying every fix I came across. Still will not work. Almost bought it again off steam, but saw many were still having trouble getting it to run.
But it means I can still jump on Half Life 1 or other early games, on that laptop, and enjoy them on the road or in conditions where I can't use my main computer. It's physically impossible for me to update or upgrade that computer anyway - it was "vista ready" when it was new, so the insides of it are so old it's not even on the charts any more. I have to settle with what already runs on it. But its not like it's my only computer.
My budget is so small for this moment, so I can't buy new computer.
Installing Win 7 at my old computer probably will make impossible to playing some games, or will decrease lot of FPS.
But Im planning buy some additional RAM, or maybe something other.
The most important question sounds: can my Steam account be blocked of using XP?
PS For now I don't need new computer, thats because Im not interested these later games that my computer can't run. HL2, P2, CStrike and sometimes Minecraft are games, that my computer runs well, and Im mostly playnig it.
And Im sorry of my probably low language level, Im still learns it.
In case of this please, be patient, or ask to me. Thanks
all you have to do is install all the C++ run times and all your old games will work on windows 10
I got games as far back as 20 years old working on it
I have seen quite a few on the GOG site and even bought 1 or 2. Even found the old disciples and disciples 2 on here for about $1. Good part is I do not mind spending a dollar or two to buy them again and let those with more pc knowledge than myself do the fixing....lol
I have tried a lot of different things, but some games refuse to work on modern OS.
Steam's program is geared to run on certain types of operating systems.
They can DO that. It's not illegal for them to change it.
It's not illegal for you to try and find workarounds such as those listed above and online all over the place. No one can or will 'come get your computer' if you do these things. Why would you think that it's somehow against a law?
