Can I get a Steam [light] version or something?
One that use very little resources and is not a whole lot more than a simple game launcher with friends list connectivity?

I can use all the social media functions of steam on a browser if I so choose, where I do my shopping on steam too now anyways for the most part thanks to enhanced steam.

Thoughts?

Here is a resource usage fix for some, including me, cut it in 1/2:

thanks Killah

PS Fix did not fix but temporarily lower my resource usage. Went back to normal 1.4GBs after awhile.

I simply used the video tutorial and reverted my steam and disabled auto updates.

Ironically, people where also asking for a Steam Lite before the UI update. I personally think it's a good idea, myself I only use it to launch games.

That said, I don't think Steam uses that much resources for what it does, and I use it simply to chat with friends and play games with them.

Unfortunately though it does. Idol, on discussion pages steam is my Top 5/6 in resource usage on my ram. 19%.! #2 is my antivirus ofc. Jump that to 23% when I am now trying to find a game.

Seriously, we need a light version soon. I dont want netflix/steam. And i dont want to go to Epic but simple is starting to look better and better.

I can't make a guess on your total amount of RAM based on percentages, so I can't say if this applies to you - but there appears to be a bug with the amount of RAM being used.

In normal circumstances it's pretty similar to the old UI. Please have a look at the thread below and post your relevant information to help Valve track it down if it applies to you.

The new library UI is stupidly laggy. Both the left sidebar with the icons loading in and out and the main area with the game cover art loading in and out.

I just tested Big Picture Mode and even that is less laggy. Kudos to the fellow forum user who noticed this and let me know about it.

I can't comment on the memory usage, but it is a laggy mess. Takes 10 seconds or more to load when switching between store, library, community and back. And seems to go to sleep if untouched. I have a game selected in the library - come back a little later, click play, and nothing happens. Have to quit out and restart Steam.

I'll have to use this library but I do not have to use the Steam Store.

The images are cached locally, they're smiply not rendered to save memroy

It'd probably be less laggy if they stayed rendered once they appeared, and didn't disappear when scrolled off.

Valve, how about you let us CHOOSE how we want our UI to look like, instead of forcing it upon us, like a Hollywood feminist?

that is funny..... thanks for the laugh, but I dont see a lot of support for a light version in this discussion.

Ok, I'll ask for a light version. I have a few older machines that would benefit from it, that I do not do ANYTHING except for playing simpler games like broforce or fez or audiosurf on. No discussions no chats no social no store page or purcahses even -- only playing content already bought for the purposes of running said content on a... lower end machine.

I just want my library to work without chromium (-no-browser). All I can access now is mini mode and I can't even go back to it via client after going to downloads or any other tab.

Just run the browser command again.
