How to remove the new "What's New" Shelf from the library
I managed to remove entirely from my library the new game images and the shelves one by one by clicking on the trash can button but I can't rid off the "what's new" shelf because it doesn't show a "remove/delete" option, not even a dragable option is available. in Steam>settings the only option is for set the display size of these images and that's all, I even turn on "low bandwidth mode" and "low performance mode" but this "what's new" pointless shelf still there and is not optional, is a forced "feature" now. any clue how to rid off it?

By the way, thanks for literally destroy my computer performance every single time my library is open now, thanks for the long-loading process between tabs and thanks for flood my entire library with free to play games and other stuff that i dont even remember I've played 8 years ago, thanks we really need this downdate, have a good day.

Okay, so here's a link to the github page where you can get the skin to remove the "what's new" header. Assuming the link isn't removed, I'll edit this post with some instructions.

Ditto. Who needs store updates wasting space on the library page? Salespeople at Steam!
Going offline removes it

We need to be able to disable and remove the shelf feature so we can use the regular library. Its impossible to navigate if we have to scroll past all the junk at the top just to play or find a game to play.

Just plopping myself in here to see if anyone figures it out.

I hate the entire thing

Not happy with inability to remove What's New shelf...

WORKAROUND:

Go to "All Games" in the sidebar menu.
Select the top game and Shift-click the last game to select them all.
Drag them ALL into the Favourites category.
View favourites category.

if offline mode is the only solution definetively this is a downdate. The left-side-border-bar with all the games is very similar to the old one and work in the same way, I don't really have any complains about it for now. But whats the point to put in there, right on the middle of the library a ton of pointless images and a forced "what's new" shelf, all of it eating your memory and taking your CPU power for nothing really, just cosmetic pointless stuff, and the "what's new" shelf is even more pointless because instead i can basically click the "activity" tab as i always do every time i want to check it and not to be forced to see it all the time like it is right now. I'm sorry but it is just a bunch of nonsense for nothing really, all for pure cosmetic changes and it seems an attempt to beautify the interface at the price of performance and speed lose, also everything is more cluttered now, that's not good... sorry but not worth from my side.

This should be a different client we can opt into or make the classic possible to opt in for using.

It works thanks but as soon you click on "home" button it comes back to the problem. (favourites category view also works with 0 games into it) I really hope they allow us to change/remove the "what's new" shelf or even give us an option for remove this new library page completely with all of the pointless functions it has included. I hope they're not thinking about change our profile pages too... I'm scared.

Worked out how to get rid of the "What's New" section.

You have to right-click on each item and it comes up with a drop down menu comprising of:

Remove Update.
Show Less from "X"
Show More from "X" (Why?)

Select "Show Less..." and it will start to remove the items from the bar.

But wait, there's more!

You'll end up losing that option with items still there, because who doesn't like more work. So then you have to select "Remove Update" until it's all gone and then the "What's New" bar goes away completely.

It'll probably come back with more "informative" stuff tomorrow, because of course it will.

Thank you so much @Skitchy it works, appreciate it. isn't the definitive solution but it's better than nothing for sure.
