For me it's rather simple. Just about 2 days ago, Fanatical had a big-ish IF flash sale -- and I didn't buy a single game from it. Why not? Because all the games I was interested in are already in my library, or the one that's just "too new" so the discount isn't all that amazing.
This is just a common occurrence: the more games I buy, the less interesting a sale will be, and what would have been amazing sale a year ago gets labelled as "boring" today.
Things would be very different if stores and publishers would get their act together, and just put stuff on sale that I want :-)
For instance, Ubisoft packs SUCK. They want $40.00 when they sell the far cry gold pack. I'm willing to pay $20.00. So I don't buy it. They don't really care, they just want the sales they can get. My opinion is not valuable to their marketing department.
Specifically, I've got 1, and 2 in my steam library. I want 1-4 in uPlay. I'm not willing to spend $40.00, I'm entirely willing to spend $20.00. They are divorced from reality.
But I can not force them to meet me at $20.00. It's not an option they provide.
It's called 'tough luck'. ♥♥♥♥ happens.
And perhaps you like newer games, they go on sales less often than older games.
As I pulled each disc and threw in in the garbage, I considered it a huge waste. But odds were the same it would have been filled with discs I loved, considering what a hot disc Year Zero is.
