Common files are called that for a reason, since more than one product, software, or game might need to use them.
Cause sometimes these get corrupted .
So I told the fix.
No need to re-install steam ... you can safely ignore that suggestion (and that user too since most of the times ...). ;)
Reinstall visual c and direct x.
I never said uninstall steam. Look.
Enjoy it.
And don't worry about it ... whenever you install/re-install a game steam will try to re-install the dependencies too or at least verify you have them installed ...
In regards of the _commonredist files being removed from game folders ... they are all being moved to the steamworks shared folder little by little to avoid having the same files dozens of times on your HDDs/SDDs, saving you gigabytes of storage ... because of this you may see 0 byte updates for many games (in batches) now and again.
