Windows defender Identifies steam as a threat
I just Installed windows 10 because of the malware and virus problems i had on windows 7. Steam identifies my games folders and when i want to performe first time setup and play one of my games my windows defender identifies all of the setup programs (such as directX , vcredit etc.) as a threat .Also it closes steamservice because it identifies it as a threat. Now i don't want to ignore it because i fear that all of those malware and viruses come back .
What should i do?

Well, in the old days one with an infected machine would either buy a PC magazine with a boot disk/CD and detailed information on how to use the tools on it for the clean up, ask a friend or go to where they had bought their computer for help...

Today, you should start with https://www.malwarebytes.com/ as mentioned above and trying to remove any pests you still have on your PC.

There's also a link for ESET on my profile, the last time i checked you could test it for a whole month for free, and it has a "SysRescue Live" option:
"A malware cleaning tool that runs independent of the operating system from a CD, DVD, or a USB. It has direct access to the disk and the file system, and therefore is capable of removing the most persistent threats."
that should also do the trick.

Anyway, i really recommend to at least think about getting some decent security software of your choice installed on your PC, since it looks like you need it, and i'd also recommend to get an USB HD as backup option.

... sounds more like your "houseguests" never left, and that your problem has nothing to do with the OS you're using, but more with the HD you're installing your software on.

So, step one would be to get a clean boot device (CD/DvD/USB stick...) with the right tools on it to really remove those pests from your HD.
Then do a fresh install again, and this time get some better security software to keep your PC clean, i'm using ESET for years now, and had no problems with it.

Last but not least, the best software won't keep you safe, if you let those pests again on your PC through clicking on some random "you won [insert game of the hour], click here to claim it!" links from "friends".

That looks like a worm problem, if defender thinks everything is a "threat"

Best thing to do:
If you don't have dvd burner etc. Use this to make bootable flash drive for Windows 10 install, then do fresh install. https://rufus.ie

Remember not to backup any files from C:\

So you did an upgrade rather than a fresh install.

If you had virus and malware problems, then an upgrade would not get rid of it. Any virus or malware would still be there.

No i had a fresh install, not upgrade.

Well, it isn't, but you may well have a virus. Maybe it's a nasty one. Did you use the same drive?
By same drive you mean Steam intall directory or my games install directory ?

Then you possibly migrated an infection along with your steam folders and anything else you kept.
So if i reinstall all of my games the problem will be solved?

What do you exactly mean by clean boot device with right tools on it? Where can i get one?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
