The $5 discount - how is it applied?
So now that Steam has finished fiddling with the numbers, I see that my planned purchases will get me within a few hundred points of the 15K mark for the $5 discount.

What I'm wondering is if anyone knows how that is applied. I'd take money over Steam XP, but if their going to just give me a coupon code or something that's going to expire and make me spend MORE money after I scraped up more stuff to buy to just to get the discount, I don't think I want to bother.

You add a game to your cart and apply the discount. Just a coupon.

OK, it is a coupon then. Happen to know how long it's good for, or does it have an expiration date?

You select the discount for 15,000 points, but it will not deduct the points until you actually use the coupon. The next game you purchase will automatically apply the coupon.

my guess would be at the end of the sale, but not sure. I didn't see anything that showed an expiration.

Ah, that's what I was thinking. It was chance my wishlist for this sale was big enough to come close to that huge total, I'm not inclined to spend ANOTHER 5-10 bucks just to get a coupon to spend more money RIGHT NOW. I'll just beef my Steam level and maybe get a few emotes.

Thanks for the info.

It's not a coupon. Upon purchasing the discount you get a banner at the top of the store page, which stays there until you checkout (ie buy something). There was no expiry displayed, nor does it say anywhere that it does expire (unless you buy something). Yes it stacks, the banner will show this once you obtain your second discount. Also, discount probably isn't the right word, as you can use it to purchase something of equal or less valve without having to spend money, credit would probably work better.

Ah, thanks again for NEW info. Especially since Valve has apparently decided to cap the Grand Prix badge, it looks like I'll be yo-yoing back to finding more crap to buy. Steam, you sly S.O.B.'s you....

Yes. I have activated several at the same time to get $15 of my purchase

Anyone know if it works within games? Say if I wanted to buy a couple tf2 keys with the savings mode activated would it work?

The 15K points used for the discount aren't redeemed until you actually spend the discount.

If you use the points for something else you would no longer have enough to cover it.

If you still have the 15K points I would just try to retrigger the discount option, then check at checkout if it's applied. If it has you are all good.
