[SOLVED]Client opens browser to error page
I've had to stop using the client and not have access to my games at all now because the file verification updater updated the Steam Client to the new layout. It constantly opens my default browser and spams a new tab every second trying to open http://error/

It did this even though I have the -noverifyfiles switch in the target properties for the client executable.

It just keeps opening new browser tabs and goes to that error address. I assume if I don't kill the Steam Client to stop it it will keep doing it until it locks up my computer. Is this happening to anyone else?

Opting in to the beta version of the client stopped it from happening for me. I contacted support and they suggested that. That's probably what you're going to have to do, Hellrespawn, contact support.

I was also faced with this same issue today. I had already tried reinstalling Steam through varying methods all of which left my installed games intact (700+ GB meant it would only be a very desperate last resort to fully reinstall), running Steam as an Admin and lastly opting in (and later back out) of the beta. All to no avail. I was about to contact customer support and post here to seek furter guidance when I suddenly realized I forgot one thing; rebooting my PC. So off and back on my PC went and lo and behold, Steam works without issues again.

I tried opting for beta, it updated the client and I even rebooted my computer but did not fix this issue for me. I then opted out of beta and the client updated again to the public version, did not fix either. I haven't been able to use Steam for a couple of days now, what should I do next? Steam doesn't answer my ticket.

I also started having this problem a few days ago - when I try to open tags Community or Profile I get a blank screen with error 107. The same goes with the browser steam page doesn't open saying the site can't provide a safe connection. I've tried quite a lot of solutions and nothing works. I'm writitng here from Tor - that's the only way I can open steam discussions so far. The client is still fooked up though, but at least I can play.
Steam support wasn't really helpfull - they told me to read their troubleshooting section (which I couldn't even do untill now) and that there might be a lot of reasons for that (duh).
Does anyone have or had the same issues? How did you resolve it? I'm pretty sure steam screwed this up on their side.

I know... There's an issue with the entirely of the Steam server and we don't know what Valve is currently doing. This error issue, that have affected all of the regional servers, has to stop...

Important to know, please answer these questions:
1. Do you use a VPN or Proxy Server?
2. What operating system are you using? Check, and insure it's up to date.
3. What browser do you use as your default? (if you say Edge you deserve to be pillock slapped silly).
4. Is Google Chrome browser up to date? This may or may not matter but it might help to update it if it's not the latest version. Explanation below.
5. Do you have the same Error 107 if you go to the site and login?

https://www.steampowered.com

Error 107 is not 'this problem' that I reported. It's an SSL (Secure Socket Layer / Secure Server Licensing / Server Side Licensing) error. What SSL is in this case is security encryption that provides the S in 'https://" at the beginning of a website address. https and SSL are an attempt to secure the connection between your computer and the server hosting the site you're visiting.

It has to do with the browser the Steam Client uses which was made with Chromium. Despite popular belief Chromium is not a browser it is a type of coding used to create applications. Browsers are one of the things Chromium coding is used to create. Valve used it to create the browser for the client. It's what loads all of the information in large mode of the client; the links such as Store, Library, Community, Your Profile, etc.

The website at https://www.steampowered.com is the same thing you see when you're logged in to the client.

Possible Solution
Update Google Chrome
- Open Chrome and click on the 3 vertical dots at the top right under the X.
- Place your cursor over "Help" and select "About Google Chrome"
It will load a screen and check to see if you have the latest version. Update it if you don't have the newest version.
* I doubt this will help since the Client browser for Steam is not Chrome but doing this might resolve it.
- Restart the computer. In Windows click the Start Button > click Power > Restart.
*Note: If your computer is a laptop closing the lid does not restart or reboot it. Closing the lid only puts it in a sleep mode. It needs to be restarted, completely shut down and powered back up.

Alternative Solution 1:
Opt in to the Steam Client Beta
Steam > Settings > Account
- In the Account section of steam settings the Beta Participation option is at the bottom. Click the "Change" button and select one of the beta versions (there may only be one).
- Restart Steam. It will prompt you and ask you to.

Alternative Solution 2:
Use a browser to access your Steam stuff.
What we see in the client is the same thing you see on the site after logging in.

Yeah. They've apparently hired some new staff within the last year or so that they probably shouldn't have given a job to. The quality of the reply we get from submitting a support ticket to Valve depends on who replies to your support ticket. Some idiots they have working for them now might only have knowledge in a specific area Valve needs a person for and otherwise only know how to pick their nose.

The staff that actually knows wtf they're doing give good, quality, advice.

- Click on the "I need more help" button at the bottom that asks if your issue is resolved or not and reply (nicely) saying (basically) "Done. I followed the link and did what it said. Still getting Error 107."

Someone else will reply, you usually don't get an idiot twice. Cross your fingers the next reply you get is actually someone that knows something and has a good suggestion. But also be prepared for a person that knows wtf's going on to say they know about that issue and they're working on fixing it.

@Jack Schitt
Thanks for such a detailed answer.
Fortunately, I've been lucky enough to run into a solution. Some guy on steam forums suggested switching to another DNS-server. In my case I was using automatic settings for this so it was blank when I opened it. I just punched in Google DNS-server and that did it for me. And to read the advice mentioned I opened the steam website using tor browser - it worked fine too.

As for your questions: I'm running chrome, win 10. I use VPN-like chrome extentions. When I went to the site usning browser I used to get connection error saying it coudn't make a safe connection to the site and something about proxy server. Also I had error 503 when I was trying to open the links they provided me in tech support reply.

Before I found this solution I did everything you suggested: updated Chrome, opted into steam-beta, reinstalled steam, cleaned cache of both chrome and steam, checked my host file, tweaked my date and time settings, called my internet provider, etc. But only changing my DNS helped eventually.

Hopefully it will help someone else too.

That's what I was getting at by asking the first question I asked, VPN or proxy settings. When VPN or (real) proxy servers are used they're in the way and cause a bunch of connection errors if the settings aren't perfectly correct. Glad you got it working!

But while I was trying to fix this problem I, of course, tried to turn off all vpn-like apps and it didn't do much, even with my real IP I couldn't get through this error.

They get in the way and cause errors if settings are activated, too, even if they're 'turned off'. If there's info there it could cause conflict. Similar scenario is some programs like a few anti-virus suites can't be completely turned off unless they're uninstalled.

However it was resolved it was resolve. Glad it's resolved!
