Steam library images location (hero, covers, logos etc)
Is there a save location for each game's default hero graphics (background images), logo PNGs and cover images that show up in the new Steam library? Are they even stored anywhere locally on our computers?

No matter - I found them by searching my program files folder for PNGs. If anyone else is interested to know where they are located, they are here: Program Files (x86)\Steam\appcache\librarycache

For me, it's been useful to simply replace a PNG with my own of the same dimensions (and the same filename, obviously) in the aforementioned folder (librarycache) when custom artwork would not apply (for whatever reason).

To get these to then show up as the new default you need only quit Steam and restart it.

Keep a backup of your custom in case the Steam team replaces the default with a different image (this happens from time to time, particularly with hero images)

Do the custom images you implement carry across with your account? Just went through fixing all my games that needed new heroes and logos and don't want to go through it again if I ever need to reinstall Steam

You need to back it up, forget where to backup so if anyone could say the spot to backup for keeping the changes it would be appreciated.

Or was it just the (x86)\Steam\appcache\librarycache ?

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
