Re: Steam Gift Discount Coupons (Random pick of game?)
Had a question about this, as I got two Steam Gifts yesterday, which were both Discount Coupons. I enjoy a surprise like this, especially when I'm booting up Steam for the day; I even enjoy the 'flip-through' of New Releases, Game Discounts/Sales and Pre-Order window nowadays. That is a feature I'm very happy to look forward to!

The thing with these two coupons (for Total War: Warhammer and Warhammer: Vermintide II), is that I own both games (both Total War: Warhammer I & II, all the DLC, and Vermintide II and all of its DLC) and the coupons are both useless to me, as much as they are both a very healthy discount on both. I wanted to ask, either of someone who might specifically know how these coupons are picked out and distributed, or someone who's gotten a fair number of them and has a 'feel' for how they're picked out: is the selection process random (and just dumb luck I got two coupons for two games I already own) or by some other means?

Thanks!

The dev or publisher handed it out for owning other titles they make. It should tell you this in the coupon itself.

For other random coupons, you can get those for crafting game badges.

I dig. I'll look again (I didn't even see 'where' the gift coupon game from, other than being in Steam Gifts, sorry), but that makes sense: Sega manages all of the Warhammer titles now, being the Big Licensor for Warhammer, and I own a number of Warhammer games (like the Dawn Of War series, along with Space Marine, Vermintide II and both Total War: Warhammer games). Still, even if it's meant in kindness and just random gifts from Sega (as the developer) neither of the aforementioned coupons are of any use to me.

The discounts for both are significant (one is 50% off the base game, the other 25%, I believe; I'd have to go check); I don't know how to do it, but is there a place I could put them (or transfer them to someone) so they could be of use to someone who doesn't own either Total War: Warhammer or Vermintide II, and might be interested in them, while the coupons are still valid? I don't know if they're something I could pass on to someone else, or if they're for use only by me.

Thanks for posting back, ami!

I'm afraid I don't often check game Hubs (I know what you mean by them, tho'!), but that makes a lot of sense now; if someone who owns one might not own the other, they get both coupons to be sure everyone's covered. My own luck that I own both (all three, if you're counting Total War I and II separately) but that's something good in and of itself, 'cus I've got 'em to play! :)

Thank you to HotSauce for your post regarding the Coupon Dumpster; if the instructions for posting are simple enough for me to follow, I'll gladly pass on both of my Total War: Warhammer II and Vermintide II coupons so someone else can have two discounts for fun! :)

Cheers, mes amis!

UPDATE: I've gone over the Coupon Dumpster rules, and I need to ask something: is there a way to send Steam Gift Coupons anonymously, or is it akin to gifting someone a game (which would require connecting to another Friend's account)? I'm not totally comfortable with linking accounts (I mean, making a Friend connection just to do the transfer) to someone I don't know reasonably well online.

You wont need to make any friend requests - just can just use one of the auto trade links from this post:

If you haven't used inventory trade before then all you need to do is double click the item in your inventory, that moves it to the trade window - then offer the trade, confirm it is a gift (that you get nothing in return) and then confirm the trade again with email or authenticator, depending on what you have set up.

Red Shift, I have to say I'm both happy to have your help and to not be told I'm simple and foolish for asking simple questions like this. This is the kind of low-toxic, healthy gaming community I enjoy being a part of, and such a gamer met in the process. Thank you for that!

For now, I'll follow your instructions provided and via the link posted above. Again, you have my sincere thanks for both your kindness and patience! :)
