Launching any steam game instantly kills my internet
I noticed that when I launch any steam game it kills my internet. I use a wired connection (ethernet) and get consistently 90-100mbps download and 90-100mbps upload speed.

However whenever I launch any game on steam it instantly lowers my internet speed to under 5mbps download and 1mbps upload.

Even stranger though, launching other games not on steam such as apex legends or Fortnite doesnt hurt my internet nearly as much and leaves me at about 80-90mbps download and 80-90mbps upload. this leads me to believe its an issue with steam.

ive already changed my DNS and and Ive already lowered my in-game server browser max ping to its lowest value (250). neither of these fixes have worked for me.

if anyone has any better or more helpful ideas id be very appreciative

Thanks for the heads up about software and network priority. I have a Lenovo Legion 5 and downloaded the Lenovo Vantage software. When I was first setting it up, I enable a setting called "Network Boost". After disabling it, my games stopped sucking my internet dry and I could finally stream properly.

ive been playing on a lenovo gaming laptop and i found that my issue was a network priority limiter that starts if it detects me playing a game. although the software to turn this setting on and off isnt pre installed on the computer the network limiter comes built in by default. the app I found was called lenovo nerve center and after downloading it and turning off the network priority feature I havent had the issue again. if you arent on a lenovo machine however i have read that alot of computers by default have feature like this, for instance windows has game focus feature that does the same thing so its worth while to check around your pc's settings and find if there is a network priority setting and make sure it is turned off. and it seemed like the only reason it wasnt limiting my internet while playing other games is because the application was only recognizing steam applications as games and not other third party games like apex legends. so if youre having this problem mostly with playing steam games id assume its a network priority "gaming" feature. like i said though i didnt have access to the software to turn off this feature until i downloaded a completely different app so the setting might be hard to find
Bro I can not thank you enough. I was going insane. I uninstalled lots of plugins on my OBs studio. I installed streamlabs thinking the problem was obs till streamlabs gave me the same problem. Then I ran a speed test to check what was going on. I didn't even knew my internet speed was dropping from 900Mbps to 0.1mbps when I opened a steam game. I wasn't even getting 1mb on my upload speed. Thanks to the google search I found this post and you saved me from pulling all my hairs off. I have a Lenovo laptop and the software is Lenovo Vantage. I hope this post can help other like me. I will be posting a video on youtube on how fix this problem credit goes to you

I have the same issue, but my laptop is an MSI modern14.
I tried to install Dragon Center, but it's not supported.
So couldn't solve this problem yet. Does anyone have a different solution?

similar issue to KingDevil here, my laptop is an MSI and jumping through all those hoops seems to help nothing, speedtest says I've got a 300 download but most games I play say "Error; Disconnected From The Server"

Turning off "Network Boost" in Lenovo Vantage did it for me! Thank you.

Posting my experience for others who might be having this problem. I have a Lenovo Y540. Whenever I launched a game from Steam, internet speed would drop to almost zero, and when I closed the game, it would go back to normal.

I tried turning off Network Boost in Lenovo Vantage app but it didn't help.
Finally I tried uninstalling Lenovo Vantage completely, which fixed the problem entirely.
Since I no longer have the power options in the Vantage, I set the power to "Best Performance" in Win 11 power settings. The performance seems to be fine.

Let me know if you know whether or not Lenovo Vantage provides any performance benefits. If so, I will try to find a way to keep it installed without killing my internet entirely.

instead of uninstalling lenovo vantage, download lenovo nerve center and disable network boost in that app. for some reason even though it doesnt come pre installed on lenovo laptops anymore its still the only way ive found to fix the issue without losing any other functionality that lenovo vantage provides. nerve center is basically the old version of lenovo vantage.
