Alleged false 'watching broadcast' bug - looks like account hijack, comment
Is there any known bug that could, in any way, make a user appear to be watching a broadcast when they are not?

It looks 100% like the account was hijacked, but the 'parties involved' claims it must be some kind of bug. I seriously doubt it, but I'll give it the benefit of passing doubt.

This person never watches broadcasts. At all. And he's also not into the game that was being broadcast, and would never leave the account logged in elsewhere.
It looks like a hijacker made a mistake and started watching broadcasts via. the hijacked account instead of their own.

If anyone can think of an alternative explanation, no matter how far-fetched, I'd appreciate a comment about it.

I just caught another friend with the same weird bug. Now that I have a more direct view and some info, I'd say it looks like a bug.

"Currently watching broadcast DevolverPublicAccess"

She's not watching a broadcast.

quote:

"i just went on steam store page
went see 90% sales
and appeared a transmition, i closed and still here"

I think you can all understand what it means.
She went to the store page, checked sales, and this "watching broadcast" message appeared and won't go away even with a restart (apparently). Like with my other friend, it disappeared by itself after some 5-10 minutes.

Didn't happen here. Didn't even show I was watching at all.

Odd bug.

Probably should post it here...

I got the same bug when I loaded up steam. Was kinda weird. Login history under support area shows I'm only one whose logged in, so I wasn't hacked. So I think its a steam bug

Yeah are you sure you aren't watching a broadcast via the store page?

Yeah this.

If you guys happen to be curious whether if your account hijacked or not try looking on Steam Support - My Account - then Login History to see if someone logged in different place

What happens if she does this:

1. go to store preferences

2. scroll all the way to the bottom of the page where it says "LIVE BROADCASTS".

3. Check the box next to "Hide all live broadcasts on the store product pages.".

4. Quit steam.

5. Open steam.

That would probably be it, yeah. I'll ask when they come on later.

After probing around a bit I've heard others refer to the same thing. That's probably what it was. The streaming just automatically started without any interaction.

Side note: automatically starting a game stream is just a bad idea, guess the devs should be alerted to this. Can't count how many gaming friends I have who get their pings shot to crap when their roomies or siblings start streaming anything. A few ppl I talked to today specifically complained about this.
