Valve Index VR Kit Not Purchasable with Steam Wallet
For as long as I can remember you could purchase the Index with steam wallet funds, however as of recently it looks like you can't anymore. On top of this they added a tax (I live in Texas and did my research so I get that) that might have something to do with it? Wanted to see if anyone else had the same issue.

*ding ding ding*

They're minimizing ways to cash out Steam wallet back to real life money.

Correct. The entire amount must be added through an external method.

That's bs, they could just limit at once per account which is sufficient enough I guess ?
As of now, it says nowhere that I wouldn't be able to use my wallet funds to buy an Index and the support even told that we could do it back in may :

Yeah thats probably what it is. I dont understand why they wouldnt like people converting those items to real money because that would just strengthen the economy on steam and in general make them more money. Its also odd that this change is only on the Index and not any of the other hardware such as the steam controller or link.

And still, it makes for more headset sales = win. They'd probably up the usage of their helmet since it's not the best. People are still on oculus. One per account/postal adress would be a sufficient limit to prevent people from abusing it. Also, I decided to buy this since I had tons of dormant skins in my inventory, that led to me selling everything, and valve gaining 200 bucks from the 15%tax. I don't get it ?

Same, I decided to cash out roughly 1350 in skins recently on steam and am now getting screwed for it. Already bought the new DLC for destiny 2 and was gunna buy a bunch of VR games as well. Looks like im going to just have to buy a medusa or some other expensive skin and cash out again losing another like 200 dollars. Valve really should have just added some sort of disclaimer on the store page or something and this wouldn't have been an issue at all.

You know the ongoing efforts to class "lockboxes" as gambling? Valve might be trying to avoid similar scrutiny by demonetizing skins.

They wouldn't kill their economy on purpose even if pressured by lawmakers. If it was something to do with the legal side they probably would have come out and explained why it was changed just like they did with the xray case stuff in csgo.

Or, if they didn't want comments from the peanut gallery, they might do it quietly in the background.

I'm not saying this is what valve did, but I could understand if it were.

What on earth are you blithering about? It IS the best headset. Litterally every reviewer stated as much and I assure you. the Index really is superior to anything else on the market. Oculus simple has a bigger market share because they're offering the budget headset for first time buyers.

Valve wasn't looking to get into value headsets. They wanted and made top of the line ones.

That's where valve screwed up. If they wanted to do somethig positive to spread VR adoption, then they would have focused on helping to make it more affordable. That's really what has been holding it back, but eventually as hardware gets more powerful, you are going to see the cost of entry into VR go down, and that's when it is going to start picking up more and more adoption.

When I saw the price of the Valve Index, I facepalmed. Typical Valve. Totally disconnected.

The only disconnect I see here is your's. What you said is disproveable nonsense for multiple reasons.

First off, Valve didn't "screw up" anything. Valve did what they wanted to do which was build the best possible VR system they could. This started with a partnership with HTC for the Vive then turned into the Index. Thats the headset they wanted to develop and release.

Secondly, Valve is not pushing any hardware over another nor are they in competition to sell headsets. They don't need to be. You can straight up use any VR headset on SteamVR and since Valves end game is to sell you games, not headsets, it makes not a shred of difference what headset you buy.

Thirdly, Valve have litterally made the SteamVR partnership program with over 500 tech firms which includes Microsoft for WinMR support (who where, at the time, producing budget headsets) and Google so Daydream devices can connect (at some level) to SteamVR.

Forthly, your logic makes absoultely no sense anyway. Would you argue lamborghini is doing nothing to push car adoption because they make expensive sports cars?

If you want "affordable VR" it exists. You can buy a complete self contained VR system for $400 with the Oculus Quest. If you want the best high end experiance, you connect an Index to your PC. If you want something in between, there are multiple options from multiple companies.

Nothing is holding VR back, least of all Valve.
