generally speaking nobody has or had any problem with how epic or steam or rockstar conduct their business except a few constant complainers whinging to each other in a circle jerk on a steam forum and mistakingly thinking anyone outside the circle jerk cares what they think or say on the subject.
most gamers don't care what the complainers have to say.
epic doesn't care either.
nor does steam care
not does rockstar care.
being constantly offended and whinging doesn't interest or influence others. sorry but it's true.
P.S. seethe as much as you want.
Also you're shooting yourself really because you want the game day one, which I mean you want the worse deal, instead of the best deal, unless you're doing this solely for convenience, because it's the client you used most often which I can assume why you want it on Epic mainly, just like the reason people would want it on Steam.
- If pre order on Rockstar client you will get two free rockstar games to choose out of the six games they're offering for free, as well couple free small DLCs for RDR2, as well 50 gold for online on RDR2. Right now pre orders are up on Rockstar client since the 9th.
- If pre order on Epic client, which pre orders starts on 23rd for Epic so you need to wait, also you get only 25 gold for online on RDR2, that's about it. Yup you read that correct you get nothing else for pre ordering on Epic, and get half worth compare to those thatr pre order on Rockstar client.
There's no pre orders on Steam, or as of yet, if even planned, but is planned exactly one month after launch of RDR2 to be on Steam, anything else such as extra things, if anyone is not said, so no one knows if there's anything, or just the game itself, again people that buy on Steam would either be doing it for convenience, and personal preference, the same reason you would for Epic.
Also FYI you need to get rockstar client no matter what, and you need a rockstar client, as they're doing exactly what Ubisoft doing for Uplay, if you know at all about that, if not then means that in order to play the game, as well in order to go online you need account with Rockstar, and link your game to that service on that account, and yes you need the rockstar client no matter what, as it's their DRM for their game, so you be running two clients if bought on Epic / Steam, or if only get on Rockstar only one client. I hope that explains it all to you.
Just leaving this here so you can read the Publisher own words.

Huh? How would one “miss out” on the game?
That’s what has been announced, yes.
No, had enough of them when San Andreas was released and it was just another GTA game which on every 3 missions I had to either do chores for the 'hood or massacre the populace to get some inspiration and willforce to do 3 more missions.
Rockstar jarates on their customers because they can treat games like dirt and still make tons of money.
