The whole network going tits up really wouldn't have bothered me at all if I could have kjust carried on offline.
As it happened I was approaching homicidal levels of rage.

At one point I couldn't even get Steam started in offline mode. What gives?

I am very worried after this outage as I have spent thousands of dollars on steam. Going forward I am really tempted to use gog.com on all non steam exclusive games and I recommend everyone who is worried about their hard earned money to do the same if they care about their library of games. I had no idea you could not get to offline mode ether as I though it had stored a token after being connected a few hours prior. What a crappy user experience and it's a weekend to boot! Good going Valve, big facepalm on your part!

Good old games can be found at gog.com with zero DRM go check them out!

I'm trying hard to think of a possible reason for this. I can't come up with anything right now, but I'm 100% sure it's some kind of shady, money grubbing, corporate shenenigans.
