Forced to reinstall game after power failure eperience

Just tell me how the heck does this happen?

I was playing Conan and was advised to expect a power outage within the next minute or two. I exited the game but did not have the time to close Steam before the pc shut down. To my astonishment on my return I am told by Steam that Conan must be installed. 12 hours of installation time! I am so angry.

Please explain to me why this happened. That a game has to be reinstalled just because Steam was not closed only after "Running" after the name of the game disappeared. Also why is this? I mean if I exited the game and it is not on my desktop anymore why is it taking so long in steam for it to stop "running"?????

Usually happens when you incorrectly exit Steam. And a power failure is just that.

Installed games are appearing as uninstalled
