Either the Developer changes them to something thats not copyrighted, or they will remain blank.
No ones knows. It only has a DMCA claim on it right now. He may proceed with a lawsuit or drop the DMCA. No way to tell the future.

Thanks for the helpful answers

jewish guy copyrighted pepe (although he had absolutely nothing to do with its conception) and now ♥♥♥♥ like this is happening?
Kinda sucks, I bought the emoticon a week ago for 60 cents, now its worth 8 cents
i wish we could get emotions with out crafting the emotions
That guy with his pepe is a bit strange. He constantly does something emotional with the meme. That's what happens when memes are copyrighted.
Not sure what's stranger about this than another case of copyright violation in history. If you use other people's work without permission, then yes, you might be told to stop using it.

The guy has already recieved enough fame and money for his effortless piece of "work". Time to be grateful. Right now he is just being edgy and showing that "he has the power". Power to remove people's stickers. That's rude. Btw, a lot of people create memes, just not everyone is so greedy to copyright them.

okay.
He does have the power; it's his work, that's what it means. If people want to use it they should ask permission.

Other people, who have a problem with their "stickers being removed" should take it up with those who sold them copyright-violating works. They're the ones at fault.

Btw, copyright is automatic. Anyone who creates an original work has copyright over it the moment it's written down / saved to disk. You don't have to "copyright it".

Wrong on all levels. He didn't create the meme. He created a bunch of characters for a webcomic, one of which got stolen for a meme. Also webcomics don't make money.

Everything is copyrighted by default, just not everyone is enforcing it.

His creation is being abused for a cause he vehemently disagrees with, and he has the legal means to shut it down. Go create something your proud of, and then have someone smear ♥♥♥♥ all over it, you'll get how it feels.

Ah, I see. I make this same thread with the exception of saying that Valve should refund users for taking their items away, and the mods move it to "help&tips" to get rid of it. Don't you dare "demand" Valve refund you for taking your stuff away, or mod shills get angry

Yeah, that would be the store owner, Valve

Incorrect. Steam is just a Store Front, not the primary seller.
If you buy a product at the supermarket that has a dead mouse in it you go and sue the producer, not the supermarket for selling it.

They sold you something they did not have the rights too, they also lied to VALVE since Steam requires you to confirm that you own the copyright for every material you offer on the store.
So the fault lies 100% with the game developer/publisher that sold these emoticons/artworks they dont have the copyright for.

If I bought a box of cereal with a dead mouse in it from Walmart, Walmart would still do the right thing and refund me. They would also be more careful about selling any more cereal from that producer. Walmart doesn't allow anyone and their cat to sell cereal in their store, so it is a lot easier to trust them, unlike Valve, who will now let literally anyone sell whatever. Golly gee, who thought that might backfire?

Morally at least, yeah, I'd say it's both - after all, both Valve and the dev were profiting from these market sales.

Well, that depends on the law where you live, which will differ from place to place. Here in Australia, for instance, stores are responsible for things they sell, and can't palm you off to the manufacturer if there's a problem.
