How do you still sell games like Fallout 3?
Steam has ended support and it's no working on Windows XP: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1558-AFCM-4577

Fallout 3 here (Gog version works well) doesn't work on Windows 7 and later -officially:
"Notice: Fallout 3 is not optimized for Windows 7 and later. "
https://store.steampowered.com/app/22370/Fallout_3_Game_of_the_Year_Edition/

If you want to sell those games, you should provide the necessary updates.

Also If you've sold games when Windows Vista or 7 is not around, how do you configure your client to not work on XP anymore? People bought games back then and nobody has to upgrade to newer versions of Windows. You should provide people what they bought from you.

. I'm asking why developers sell their games without patches for latest sofware when they know too well that most players don't use Windows XP anymore.
Because the other way around we'd just be discussing 'Why is Steam not selling this game that totally runs on new systems despite being old'

Being able to buy an old game that can be made to run on a new OS is always better than not being able to buy it at all.

Amen!
Some games are not for the lazy and the joke is you'll easily see which game is what just from the recent reviews or a quick glance at the forum.

There are more games like that such as 'The Chronicals of Riddick', that game won't even run anymore (and still has a nasty DRM in place that will cause PC errors). But even the old GTA Vice City game is not really playable anymore, it runs, but the controls doesn't really work anymore.

I'm personally not "lazy", I dealt with a lot of bad ports to PC, very buggy games, or with games that are incompatable with a modern software, that doesn't mean I don't see any issues with the state of those games.
At that point you'd know that thats just par for the course in gaming going as far back as the early ms-dos games when you had to wrestle with conventional memory.

That is why I'm in for the launcher holders adding even fan's patches as an optional download, or sometimes even not optional, because it's likely that if they are not added, the best option for an unpatched games is to add those very patches, not matter who exactly made them.
And then you get into the sticky tar pit of proper compensation for those patches and the ngotiatians thart come with that. This becomes ever more comoplex the more partches you have to add. and even then you;'re banking on the idea that the person you're negotiating with actually created the opatch which they may not have.

And you forgot the fact that there are a lot of people with a bad technical knowledge regarding PC software who are not "lazy", but simply either wouldn't be able to install the required patches/fixes, or would waste a lot of their time for that.
That's 'lazy'. Such folk are better off sticking to consoles... but of course there you have tyhe same problem.

They shouldn't have the opportunity to play the game then? Just because they have bad skills patching the game?
COnsidering the skill involves:

1. Using google.
2. Knowing how to download something in a webbrowser.
3. Being able to read and follow clearly worded instructions

I'm sorry but if any of those are out of your skillset... yeah you probably shouldn't even be using a pc that wasn't made by V-Tech
Perhaps they should do something like what the SimCity 4 Steam page does and show a disclaimer.

At the bottom of the ABOUT THIS GAME section, there is the following paragraph:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/24780/SimCity_4_Deluxe_Edition/ eredeti hozzászólása:
System Compatibility
SimCity was tested for performance and hardware compatibility when it was originally launched. While the classic gameplay of SimCity 4 remains unchanged, unexpected performance and graphics issues with newer systems may occur. If you experience any performance or graphics issues, we recommend running in Windowed Mode and/or Compatibility Mode to maintain the intended experience.
The dev/pub added info, yeah.

Perhaps Valve could add disclaimers for other old games still on sale, as well as a reminder of the refund policy for in case it doesn't work.

The devs are the only opnes who can add that.
Valve does not know the ins and outs of every game and when you combine that with the fact that not every system may show the issues..
Valve did add the disclaimer for the Catalina compatibility.

So...?

Catalina added some very strict restrictions to what can and cannot run on their OS. Not only are all 32-bit programs out, but they have added signing requirements that pretty much require developers get approval for Apple to allow a program to run on Catalina.

As for Fallout 3, the store already has a disclaimer.

In otherwords a very predictable and universal issue.

There are 'fixes' for the issues that I've had with fallout 3 on modern OS..

Google is your friend.

Not that I'm a supporter of these big cats telling you to junk your hardware and start over.
Hes right though the companies should add the updates not the customers..
all my fallout 1-2-3-4-nv work good on windows 10.
