Does Remote Play Together work with non-Steam games?
Like if I wanna play a local co-op game but don't own it on Steam and add it manually.

It would be a huge bummer if you can't.

The short answer is yes, however it requires a (generally older/looser DRM?) donor steam game with Remote Play Together enabled.

An example is LEGO® Batman™: The Videogame (2008). Gutting/deleting the local Lego Batman game files and creating either hardlinks or transferring the non-steam game files, followed by making sure the new game exe is appropriately titled (in this case "LEGOBatman.exe") seems to work.

There's plenty of other games besides Lego Batman this works for, but it's up to you to scan the compatibility list and find one you own. Target non-steam games it's compatible with is likely a little more hit-or-miss, but in general it's probably fair to assume that if it works on Parsec it'll work through Steam.

Sigma's solution works ! I did it using Polarity : I replaced all the files with another game and renamed the .exe of the other game Polarity.exe and it launched !

As far as I can tell this will work for literally anything with a .exe including things that are not even a game.

Step 1
Find a game that allows remote play and have it installed on system

Step 2
Remove all files inside the games folder and replace with other game/software

Step 3
Rename .exe to the original name of the game's .exe
(for example, rename Emulator.exe to SpeedRunners.exe. Here Speed Runners is the 'donor' game and Emulator.exe is the software you want to share)

Step 4
Enjoy!

Some issues include the fact that the other players can only view the first window that appears. Often this means the other players cannot see sub-menus that open in a different window. In the case of the emulator that means they cannot see the menu used to rebind controls and will have issues.

I also can't get games like Skyrim/Fallout to work due to the fact that SkyrimLauncher.exe (renamed to SpeedRunners.exe) will close when I launch the main game, Skyrim.exe. If I rename Skyrim.exe instead then it tries to start the Launcher and also fails.

Tried with dolphin and Brawlhala but my friend can only hear my audio but black screen, anyone encountered this? I'm thinking maybe it's because Dolphin creates a second window different from the main one and it's trying to stream the main window, but that wouldn't really explain the blank screen for him.

I've got this working perfectly with a few games but has anyone had any success getting it to work with DOSBox? The problem I'm having is DOSBox's main window is the status window and the actual DOS prompt is a second window. I know you can use the -noconsole command line switch to turn off the console window but, as far as I know, there's no way to force Steam to use that; and I suspect that it wouldn't help anyway and the status window would still be there, but invisible.

Edit: I forgot you actually can set command line options in the game's properties window in the Library ("Set Launch Options"). Turns out putting "-noconsole" in there works perfectly and allows Remote Play to work.

If you click graphics then general you can select render to main window in the other section. Hopefully this helps :)

Just install Parsec.
I mean it did this long before Steam did. So much easier to do than deleting files and renaming stuff and hoping it works.

Parsec has a very noticeable delay and stutters every view seconds. Remoteplay together runs much better in my experience.

Steams implementation works much better than parsec
