Excercise games on steam?
I saw beat saber but that requires vr, anything that doesn't require 3 digit attachments to play?

Not sure how you're going to pull it off, without the VR stuff, or basically without something to track you, the only option I can think of is the Xbox Kinect 2.0, or something that able to track motion, as that's kind of the only way to track, unless you bought a motion suit, or whatever it's called which they can cost as much as VR, or even more for PC.

The best option for exercise with video games is getting a Wii, with Wii fit, Wii sports, and any other games you may like as well, like boxing, or what not, but doesn't float your boat with Wii then might as well work your way getting the VR kit. There is Xbox with Kinect, but it's not that great, same with the PlayStation.

Like i said i'm not against attachments and such, i'm just not okay with spending hundreds on vr for excercise alone, there has to be something cheaper like there is for nintendo products.

You could try researching off brands, 3rd party VR products that from China, or etc, but beware, the products may be almost on par, or worse than those than the good brands like Oculus, Index, and etc, I would hands down say avoid HTC vive as not sure what their deal is as of late, but overall still looking to spend few hundred dollars for VR on PC as there no cheaper alternative really. Maybe the Kinect 2.0, but need to put up with it tracking lost, and such with that because it's not going to be good as the VR kits.

Cheapest thing I can even think of possible is basically getting a Wii, as you can get one for around $40, or so for used. Also if you get the Wii may want to get the Wii board too for the Wii fit game, I have these things, and I can tell you, it's pretty good work out, and fun.

PC doesn't really have the VR games to go with it at this point. There are some active VR games but they aren't really targeted as fitness like Wii Fit / Ring Fit Adventure.

Nintendo kind of have it as their own unique thing.

(Ring fit adventure is pretty damn fun though)

I've heard people get good workouts from beat saber

That's somewhat true, but the point of it is that you have to work out parts of your body doing certain things, and movements to get the best, or at least most out of it for work out, which on VR going to lack something, or may need to buy VR trackpads to put on your body, and such, but don't qoute me on that, I'm not all too far into this so there's still something I need to look into this for sure on my part later down the road.

True there are work out games on VR, and such, but the best work out games I have seen by far is on the Wii for wii fit and sports, and there's not much I can say but damn they're pretty enjoyable once you get into them, but it does get boring after awhile, while beat saber, and other games for VR may have custom levels, and such mod support which takes things to a whole new level of replayability.

I miss the Kinect era, and although VR is fantastic in many ways and will continue to evolve, I still don't want to carry controllers or wear VR goggles when working out. I thought the Kinect tech would evolve, but it died out, mainly due to not having enough great games for it I guess, and being a bit laggy, but what a shame. Better games and future tech would have fixed that - but it has kind of been abandoned. Reminds me of CDs overtaking mini-discs or VHS overtaking Betamax, where it was arguably better tech but one became more popular in the marketing race.

I have searched on Steam for years for the type of game you are asking about but have not found one, so I just decided to make one which comes out on April 16th 2020 - you can search for it here on steam, it's called 'Boot Camp Fitness'. It may or may not be what you are looking for but I hope this helps.

I love constructive criticism, so if there is anything lacking in my game idea that you think should be in there for what you'd hope for in a non-VR game, please let me know, I'm all ears.

I know this looks like an ugly game plug lol, but your question just matches what I am trying to do 100%. So I promise it's not, as this thread's been inactive since Oct 2019 - just wanted you to know someone out there thinks the same as you and is trying to come up with an option to exercise on Steam without 'attached gizmos'. :)

I thought the Kinect was going to be awesome as well, but this fell short to due lack of good games for it, and how buggy it can be when it 1st came, the 2nd revamp of it when was redone for xbox one, was a huge step up, people even went out of their way to make mod drivers for it to get it to be used on PC for VR chat, which does a decent job for tracking the body, but it still not all there for tracking such as fast motion movements, and the room needing to be bright enough to track, Sony had somewhat the right idea with the PS move where have glow sticks that camera tracks it, which seem to be better, back on the ps3, but even that has problems due to well not handling very fast motion tracking, and so on, but either way I thought Kinect would be great, but TBH I think microsoft should've just marketed it as a overall use for PC and Xbox, instead of just Xbox as their focus, because then I can see sales grow for VR market because it's one of the cheap options for a decent front / full body motion tracking.

That was interesting about what you said about if Microsoft would have marketed the Kinect across PCs and Xbox instead of just on the Xbox. That would have been interesting to see what would have happened in an alternate reality. Where it would have been open to developers who may have made some great games on it. Increased sales of Kinect devices may have funded better tech to improve it to being less buggy. Perhaps spin offs of Kinect-like devices would then hit the market and competition would have maybe driven even further tech improvements. But alas, this is just in our imagination.
