Very important!!! why does gaming feel so different nowadays?
Hello everyone! I need your advice again. For some months ago (2-3) I feel that every game that I play feels like it has no charm anymore... I spent more than 600 Euro for the games that I played on steam, origin, hard copy etc I know is not so much 600 Euro, but anyway.... Much of them I haven't even started to play, they are in my list there... I built a new rig last year that was more than 1200 euro, just for playing games. :))) I know too, 1200 Euro is not so much for a gaming rig, but I can play all the new games at a decent 50-60 fpd at ultra.. anyway. Also, I am 28 yo now... Maybe this says all. :-( I will always be passionate for graphics and so... but I can feel that atmosphere in games like before. When I was in high school I played The Longest Journey, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, Penumbra all the series,Outcry, and lots of games with beautiful story!!!(back then it wasnt such good graphics, but they had good story and atmopshere)/// Dreamfall and Penumbra I played 4 times ;) so much I liked back then. But now,I don't know whats happening... When I try a Skyrim, or Dying Light, Mirrors Edge Catalyst, Battlefield 1, and so... I don't feel any pleasure in them. I am so sorry :( I remember The Void game. It was such an experience 8-> Or Dreamfall chapters, or I Am Alive, GTA 5, etc . Boys and Girls, please, if you feel the same, tell me a trick what to do to absorb this gaming experience like in good old days :) Or maybe I dont have the appropiate age to be like a kid anymore with that childish imagination, like you enter the story game and you feel you are there... :)))

You need to stop and think about the games you liked and enjoyed and why you enjoyed them,. You seem to have fallen into the trap of buying not out of need but rather out of habit.

Tux Sep 25, 2017 @ 2:54pm
because your playing the wrong games and its time to play something like Subnautica instead now

You've figured out you prefer story and atmosphere, so start focusing on those games.

Start_Running, maybe you are right, but can't find anywhere games with such good story like The Longest Journey for example... and I played lots of adventure games...

Could also just be the case that you are getting older and your interests have changed. I've found that a great number of games I used to enjoy, found again and tried, just didn't appeal to me any longer. I don't have the available time I once had to play games so some games just aren't as fun any more. In addition, life experience tends to changes preferences and tastes.

Aionion, maybe this is the case, that interests have changed, maybe not... for example in the last months I spent my time learning for my exams for Bus and Lorry truck. I gradueted now, and I have free time till I go back to Germany but found no more pleasure in games. And before when I was a medical student, a few years ago, I was very busy learning, but anyway, in my freetime I played 3-4 hours/day at least ;) So having other interests is not the case not to play games... :( I still play but no longer than 30 minutes/day... In my entire lifetime I played more than 100 games Completed 100%. Now I have a list of 15 games that I must complete :))) The last game that I bought is Die Young. Is amazing, it feels like Dying Light. ;)

Too many achievements, too many skins, too many DLCs, no modding and no dedicated servers,
no LAN.

That's true Aionion. The first couple years of gaming, I don't know if that's the case for Polar_Bear, but the first couple of years is like playing with a new toy. After that novelty wore off, games were never *that* fun again.

There is another thing to look at when revisiting older games, games that age well vs games that don't. I never played Zelda:OOT, played it recently and there's parts that haven't aged well in that game.

As for story-wise. Polar_Bear hit the nail on the head. I can't remember a good story in a video game. The stories in books & movies were always better. I think the problem is that it's required to be a video game, so not only do you have to create a great movie, but also tell that movie inside of a great video game. If you can name a video game that tells a story with the same emotional impact as one of those Oscar movies, I'll eat my words.

Some games that I thought were different:
BOTW[www.google.com]
Transistor
NieR: Automata
Hellblade
Brothers

I think you want a great survivor game with a great story. To my knowledge, that doesn't exist.
The Long Dark has the best sandbox. Best comprimise is probably Fallout: New Vegas, on hardcore it has survival elements and there's some great stories told in the game.

The problem isnt your age. Its the games...devs simply stopped putting their heart into most games...i say most cause there still are very few games that arent 100% mass oriented.

I would pay a months loan for a game thats truly new and innovative with a good story and in which you can see the devs took their time and enjoyed coding...

Blitz4, I am a bit curious about The Long Dark since it was released, maybe I will give it a try. As for your list,I played Brothers : A Tale of Two Sons,it was very nice, you see, games like that I like. ;) As for Hellblade, is not so good, because of its repetition...But the graphics are really really good ;)

for me it does feel different the past 4 years....but the difference is for me its DRAMATICALLY better.

It all started when I found Kerbal Space Program and the great games available now compared to 3 years ago is just dramatically better

Brothers is TotalBiscuit[www.google.com] favorite game. That's how I heard of it. He has the most popular Curator channel here on Steam and a great youtube channel.

I hope you find games fun again. That's what they're supposed to be.

I will write down here a list of the games I enjoyed to the very best, some are old games and some new:

Some adventure and good story:

The Longest Journey- old graphics(2000) but very good puzzle, atmosphere and story
Dreamfall:The Longest Journey(2006) better graphics, but a very nice atmosphere and story
Dreamfall Chapters has very good graphics, story not so good like the previous two.
Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon
Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Outcry
Second Sight
I am alive
Mirror's Edge
Mirrors Edge: Catalyst
Skyrim 5

Now some Horror and Atmosphere:

Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason it was very deep, and a beautiful story ;)
Penumbra-all the series very deep atmosphere with a good story telling
Darkness Within 2- very similar to Penumbra
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
Indigo Prophecy
Thief-Deadly Shadows
Silent Hill all the series ;) even that for PS2 Silen Hill:Shattered Memories was very good
White Day: A Labyrinth Named School
Deadly Premonition
Dying Light,Dying Light: The Folllowing was my best experience ever in a game ;) really, till now. Those parkour elements and that freedom when running and jumping and grapling, and eliminate those zombies...and it has a very good story, very well made and complex game. !!!

The Void-masterpiece,try it guys and girls, you will be amazed.
Slender: The Arrival ;)

Some shooters:
Battlefield 4
Battlefield 1
Fallout 3
Metro 2033
Metro: Last Light

These are some games that I liked much before :-<

Maybe helps someone this list ;)

If you have any sugestions, with games like in this list or maybe better, please write them down here. Thanks, and I appreciate every comment from all of you :)
