"Dust: An Elysian Tail" also has it's fair share of 4th wall breaking, like "Yikes... monsters... Do something! Mash the buttons!"
Thanks for the heads up!
I love Dust. I beat it and really enjoyed the whole thing. It's a great game!
Particularly of note, the MMO simulator, and Waste of Space - holy crap there are so many hilarious jibes at the industry in those.
I like the series, but I'll definitely say that it has its drawbacks.
There is always a risk. The setting is certainly unique, but there's also a game around that -- and there's definitely room for improvement.
For myself, I didn't even start with Re:Birth1 (which, as the number suggests, is the first in the canonical main series on PC. Re;Birth is actually a remake of the old PS3 series, but that was never released for PC anyway -- and the first game in particular was extremely bad, apparently, so it's not even canon anymore). I got Re:Birth3 on a sale, tried it out, and kind of liked it. I've picked up RB1 and RB2 since then as well, but haven't played them yet. I don't have V-II yet (which is the 4th game).
I don't know about the others --- RB1 will certainly introduce everything, but RB3 did a great job on that too. And it's not like they are doing an ongoing story where you actually have to know details from the previous games. I don't know whether V-II has improved things over RB1-3, but it might be a suitable entry point as well (again, I know RB3, and I know RB1 and 2 are basically built the same way. I have no idea about V-II, so it might be better, or it might be something where I could copy&paste the same complaints).
A lot of instances are like, one-liners, rather than the whole point of the series, which is why they're hard to keep track of individually.
