What does it do, really?

Here's how Valve explains it:

"Steam Stats and Achievements provides an easy way for your game to provide persistent, roaming achievement and statistics tracking for your users. The user's data is associated with their Steam account, and each user's achievements and statistics can be formatted and displayed in their Steam Community Profile."


This is a crap description. The feature itself is very cool (by design), yet almost NOBODY implements it properly (it's basically game's stats that you can see IN YOUR PROFILE, without needing to run the game!). I previously thought that it only really works with Valve's games (it does for Alien Swarm... well, it's a Source game, not even a Valve's game per se... and Team Fortress 2), but it appears it's also properly implemented for Payday: The Heist.

What other games have it implemented like this? I absolutely love the feature, but it irks me how hundreds of games on the Steam Store have that bar "Stats" on their pages, yet all they offer is achievements and NOTHING ELSE. How are they allowed to have that bar?

Basically anything you can track and send an API call to can be shown on a user's profile

My game is going to be using this feature. Though I am having troubles creating a new stat as Steam isn't letting me ugh

It's a good feature but I'm not sure they want to support it anymore as there doesn't seem to be a way to access this stats page without manually typing it
