RPG with many collectable characters? Recommend me!
Hi there!

So I've been craving a new RPG with a decent amount of collectable characters. Some examples would be Chrono Cross, Dragon's Dogma, Suikoden(sp?), I'd even count Baldur's Gate or NWN. The characters don't have to have any special story (though it never hurts), I just like the collection/leveling aspect sometimes and I'm really in the mood for it. What are some recommendations you might have that'd possibly fit the bill on this one? Steam prefered, but anything PC is fine.

My first thought when reading the title was Suikoden. Well, you got that covered already. How about the Shining Force games? Arcanum - Of Steamworks and Magick has a very broad base of recruitable characters too.

Only had Neptunia in my library that similiar to yours well except some automatically recruited and the game isnt that big as the game as you mentioned.
Mostly you will find it under similiar jrpg+adventure genre.
Valkyria but not really an rpg...
Atelier games perhaps? Tales series are a thing too

I'd recommend Valkyria Chronicles.....

was a good game and a lot of the characters had backstories.
200% Mixed Juice plays a bit like a quicker verison of Pokémon and has a collect-'em-all aspect to it.

Oh yeah, another tactics-style RPG where you build an army of puppets.

Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates.

So many great suggestions! I've actually played almost all of these xD
Neptunia is one I kept an eye on but from reviews/gameplay vids I decided against. Was it pretty good? @Xaelath I'm not sure what kind of genre I'd classify this under is the thing, that's why I've had trouble searching. JRPG + Adventure brings up a lot of stuff lol

I actually came across Disgaea when I was searching for this sort of game. @ErickaUnlimited what did/didn't you like about the series? I'm considering picking that up on next sale.

Rime Berta was one I glanced at and kind of bypassed. Is it actually worth picking up? It seemed pretty basic but if you thought it was worth-while I might look into picking it up.

@Drunk_Canadian I actually own that and have been putting it off... from what I got from the show I imagine the game to be pretty linear and to have set characters. Does it have decent character selection/customization?

Disgaia 1 Pc is a great choice

One piece Pirate warriors is another

Weapon shop fantasy, has so many characters you get. And its a fun little rpg clicker hybrid (But ultra grindy near the end)

Recettear

Crush crush is a clicker/Gfcollector that free. But not much on rpg elements.

Sakura dungeon has lots of monster girls to collect. If your into mature games. Its an rpg dungeon crawler.

The binding of isaac: rebirth has a few unlockable characters.

Mount and blade warband lets you collect a few vital characters and lots of generic npcs for your army.

If you have a 3ds maybe the new monster hunter stories? Not that I've tried it.

You can't beat pokemon in sheer numbers with over 800 different npcs to collect. And its a turn based rpg.

If you haven't played it fallout 2 has a lot of npcs to find. Your limited by your charisma stat by how many can join. from 1-10 charisma. Its a great game.

If you mainly want to control and use npcs you could go for a colony sim like rimworld.

I'd pick it up on a discount. I've beaten the first set of levels, and I've heard it's not all that long, but I enjoyed the way the gameplay felt like FFT (or technically, like FFTA, since I've played that and not FFT).

I would expect similar gameplay, though I don't know how deep it goes as I haven't played that far into it (I should get back to it sometime). The story seems to be a lot simpler and presumably is a lot shorter than a complex epic like FFT though.

Fwiw, you do get to grind for experience if you so desire, which I think is the case in FFT (I know I can do that in FFTA), unlike some Fire Emblem games.

There are a total of eight playable adventurers in this game. It'll take multiple playthroughs to get all of them, though a new game + playthrough is trivially easy compared to a normal game, so you can focus on dungeon-diving and unlocking adventurers.

I still haven't found anything that's more like Pokémon than 200% Mixed Juice, as far as what's natively on PC goes. Turn-based strategy dueling with rock-paper-scissors elemental system, over 80 playable units to collect, and even an evolution mechanic.
