"Changed name Big City War › Shoot Paint"
https://steamdb.info/app/600450/history/?changeid=2741027
This is a whole lot of technical jargon, but it basically means they changed ALL the images to new ones.
And this is what the old thumbnail looked like: https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/apps/600450/e07988d7be9a1de3cdb9512ebdc232c5dd9fc409.jpg (That long string at the end is what the jargon in the steamdb link is referring to)
You'll have to hold CTRL and Scroll upwards to increase the size of the image, but there is enough clarity to see that Big City War really IS Hammer 2, and that the developer completely changed the game to avoid any trouble.
And bare in mind that all this happened AFTER the game was put on Steam as "coming soon" meaning that the people who voted to Greenlight Big City War ended up getting something completely different.
Checkmate.
again...
the majority of your clan do not agree with your parameters for the definition of an asset flip.
I dont have a problem with your definition, I have a problem with people within your clan that either A. dont agree with your parameters or B. agree with them but cite examples that are not within those parameters.
That said. Don't call people my clan. If they're not in the Digital Homicide group, or the Sentinels of the Store then I don't have anything to do with them. Even then, I don't always agree with the people in my mob. When Direct was being rolled out we had a massive argument over whether the Direct fee should be $100 or $500.
I get what you are saying, though.
For me, an asset flip is what I showed above. If a game is constructed entirely of pre-made assets, but is otherwise an original product, then it is just a game without much effort put into it, at least visually.
Other people need to learn the difference. Because people saying that a game is an asset flip when it is not are getting in the way of ratting out REAL asset flips.
why is that anyway?
why do you get enthusiastic about digging up dirt on developers?
regarding 'clan' I just needed someway to convey what you came to understand it was a struggle to near impossible to do without group labels.
I am not done yet
7 Days to Die one of my favoirte games ever in my 37 years of gaming. A game that has sold a lot, and has good reviews pretty much all the time:
1. uses assets
2. uses speed trees
3. random generated map is WAY more popular then their 'hand crafted city map' and the hand crafted city map is pretty much universally agreed on to be good. its just that random is better.
Here are some other fantastic games 'Made with Unity': Kerbal Space Program, Subnautica, The Forest all FANTASTIC games.
Tropes are like sex positions - every time you think you invented a new one, I'll tell you "People have been banging for thousands of years." It's similar with literature. You think you did something new? Shakespeare did it already.
I don't think, or least hope not, the issue is using bought assets, rather using bought complete projects and just essentially changing the title.
I don't care either way, to be honest. I'm more interested in the effort that goes into programming rather the effort that goes into scenery/assets.
ARK uses/used a bought asset pack from the Unreal Marketplace, and it's one of the highest selling games on Steam. Just an example to add to your 7DTD.
I think (and would not swear this is fact but rahter a hunch) that most people (not all) that use the term asset flip do not understand the difference.
It's something like using the default resources in RPG Maker?
I would say watching these three videos in sequence would be the best way to show somebody what an asset-flip is.

Exactly. I do consider myself not a complete idiot, but all I know when I hear the term "asset flip" is that that's some unspeakable ancient evil that's going to bring about the end of the gaming world as we know it, or something like that. Or at least that's how people talk about it.
That's like complaining when writers use already existing combinations of letters, string them together, and sell it.
