why do so many newer games have C as default crouch/stance change?
i never got this. ctrl is THE crouch button, and since you can never crouch while sprinting, which is always shift, it makes even more sense to have them be under the control of the same finger.

Think about hwo you hand actually rests on the keyboaurd

If you use ctrl then you pinky has to go all the way behind you to crouch. that's pretty hard to do in a wasd system

the c rests by your thumb and is easier to activate without needing to take yoru fingers off the wasd home row

are you using your pinky for A? i always use my ring finger for A, which means that my pinky rests on shift. it's a slight move downwards to hit ctrl. and again, having sprint and crouch controlled by the same finger makes the most sense.

It wears out my pinky finger. I like to have both CTRL and C (V because I use ESDF) bound to the same action if there isn't a prone stance and if the game allows it.

Play Warframe. The slide dash will have your pinky shift+ctrl game on point lol.

yeah and there's another point in favor of ctrl for crouch. sliding is super easy because you can sprint and crouch with one finger.

Generally I prefer C. I mostly put things on Ctrl that aren't going to require much use, especially much use that's simultaneous with WASD. The stretch to Ctrl is only slight, so it's fine now and then, but after extended periods in action-heavy games where my hands might be more tensed than usual, it has definitely caused cramps in the muscles down that side of my hand on a number of occasions. Whereas C is basically no stretch at all.

In games where I'm going to be crouching a lot (eg. Dishonored) I'll probably have it on Mouse4 anyway.

Because it's easier to switch between crouch and jump. In some games (Half-Life, all Counter-Strike series) you can crouch and jump at same time. Pressing C+Space is easier than CTRL+Space while still having hand on movement keys and able to switch weapons. You don't even need to move hand when pressing it, while you need to move when pressing ctrl.

Personally, I used "LSHIFT" as my crouch key so I don't have to move my pinky a little further down the keyboard and sprinting will always be the "Z" key for me.
Lol. I pretty much never changed controls, for any game. I alway go wuth defaults and I'm doing just fine

Since my pinky is usually resting on shift and just above control and my thumb is usually on space just below C I've never had an issue adjusting to either at all.

Yeah I totally agree One Oat. I just got R6 Siege and crouch was not only C, but toggled on and off. ewwwwww... nbd cuz remapping but why is that the default? As you say.

Weird thing is looking at the map in Heroes and Generals. It's M. Makes sense but jeez is it inconvenient. Haven't yet remapped it to X after 450hrs. Try holding W with your middle finger and shift with your pinky, then reach for M with your index...why the ♥♥♥♥ havent I changed it XD.

Do actually life and move their pinkie to ctrl? I just do this like tilt thing, I never have to lift my finger, and I can crouch jump easy as pie. Again, refer to Warframe lol. C feels clunky to me, so it's usually some utility key or some such.

Just be glad it's either c or ctrl most times, unlike some other functions which end up all over the place.

We should start petitioning for standardized keybindings instead of every developer thinking he has a new layout that's better.
