Game suggestions for people with Parkinson's?
Hi there,

My dad is about to be 67 and has had Parkinson's disease for about 12 years. This disease has really limited his ability to do the things he loves. First he lost the ability to play basketball, then he couldn't teach anymore. He can't golf anymore and, on the rare occasion he bowls, his average has dropped from 260 to about 100 on a good day. The last thing we could consistently do together was shoot pool at a nearby bar, but that now causes him too much pain. He'd probably want you to know that he could still whoop me at pool till the end, and I can back up that statement.

Basically, I made this thread in hopes I could get suggestions for games that we could play together. He loves playing Jackbox games with me and the family and I'm trying to find more games we can enjoy. I've been reading a lot about how video games do a great job of fighting off the progress of Parkinson's. I want there to be some games we can play that aren't all about twitchy reflexes and require great coordination.

I've had ideas to play Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes, Oh...Sir, and Tabletop Simulator, but I want to find some more.

He doesn't have massive problems with tremors, thanks to his medication, but he does have limited mobility and he doesn't think as quickly on his feet as he used to. I added KTANE because it would be able to slowly ramp up difficulty to challenge him and I think he'll respond well to the dopamine rush of defusing a bomb. He also doesn't generally like to sit in a chair upright for more than an hour or so because it causes him pain (he generally has his legs propped up in a recliner) so if you can think of games that can be enjoyed in short bursts or where he can play from his recliner, that would be good too.

They don't all need to be multiplayer, because he enjoys games, but we both love doing stuff together.

Thank you all! This would mean a lot to me.

My suggestion was Tabletop Simulator but I see it's already in your post.

The game BEYOND GRAVITY, while single player, only requires the pressing of one key, either the spacebar or mouse...there is no complex or precise movement necessary.

Maybe try some racing games? Trackmania or Rocket League seem really fun.
I think racing games in general don't require much input but I may be wrong. Other than that what comes to my mind is Portal.

Test the waters and since he already likes them, give a couple of the games in stuff he likes a try. I don't play any basketball games, and I can't fairly judge Golf games, but I can safely report that Pool Nation is pretty damned fun and not too complicated to get the swing of.

Pinball FX is also pretty good, and it has a ton of machines you can get for it.
