STEAM GIFTING CHANGES; Can't Store Gift to Inventory???
I like being able to purchase games when they are on sale and store them in my Inventory in order to add them to my kids account at random times; like for special rewards, birthday gifts, etc.

I really hope this isn't something Valve is going to stick with. I've been a customer for years and have hundreds of games in my Library. I guess I may have to start buying all my games from another DRM Free Provider... :/

This is a new change to the system. As of now you are not able to store gifts anymore.

Thanks for the link. Their "let us know" link just circles back here. ;)

Let's be honest; we all know the real reason for this is because Valve wants to be able to track everyone's gift purchases, and also wants to stop people from selling/buying Steam Keys on/from 3rd Party Sellers.

Buying a Steam key from a 3rd Party Seller only happens when someone wants to buy a game at the sale price, but doesn't want to wait for it to go on sale in Steam. If Steam just puts everything on sale all the time, then none of this would ever matter.

Because, let's face it; nobody wants to buy a gift at full retail. ;)

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this is the dumbest thing I've seen Valve do in a while.

On the plus side, it's going to save me a HUGE amount of money since I would frequently buy multiple copies of the same game and save them to my gift inventory and then pass them out to friends at a later date.

Now? I just won't bother.

I was about to purchase a game I wasn't quite sure whether I would like to play myself or gift to a friend at a later point. I was surprised to see I can't store it in my inventory. I'm glad competitors to Steam have been improving steadily, as I won't continue buying games from Steam unless absolutely necessary.

Does this stop devs from offering a 4-pack bundle of a game. You used to be able to buy a copy of a game for yourself and some extra copies at a special discount (or 4 copies for 3 deal) for certain multiplayer games (e.g. Chivalry or Gauntlet). I'm guessing that's not possible anymore if the extra copies can't go into your inventory for temporary storage?

No, it doesn't. 4-Packs are still available. For example:

2 and 4 packs are not affected by the change at all.

Well that's good news (as a dev planning a possible multi-pack for a future game). So does Steam store the extra copies in the Inventory in those cases (like it used to) or might it (*shudder*) force you to pick 3 friends right there and then?

Yes.

Hmmm! Yes to storing in the inventory? or Yes to picking friends right there and then? :D

Storing the games. Sorry I wasn't clear about that.

No problem :D thanks for the info! That's good news!

I very rarely post, but this is a sad change Steam have made. Like bulletproof, I buy games and put them aside for Nephew presents. I just went to purchase Broforce and it has to be sent now or on selected dates to a selected person. So I found this thread when I tried to clarify.
It's silly because it's money I just won't spend now at Steam.

I am so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mad about this.
