Overlooked achievement pointers?

I finished the game in Adventure mode and then circled back through to the cistern in Original Mode.
I am at the place where I should be able to get the Overlooked achievement. I've watched videos. But, when I hide, fear takes over and the ghoul gets me every time (Tasi says 'I think he can smell me'). Is there a trick to managing the fear when you can't use a light because you are hiding/waiting?

It finally worked... I lit the lamp in the room to the right (did not light candles in room to the left), used matches until I was in place, and then crouched in the corner. For once, fear did not overtake me!
